- Thanks for the response, i neglected to mention in my original post that my basement flooded and the water reached to the washers base level. my first thoughts led me to believe the problem is with the motor control board which from my examination of the diagrams shows it at the base of the machine. once i have a chance i intend to access the board and examine it for damage.

The problem was with the component that i suspected, the motor control board. I replaced it and everything is operating as designed. Thanks for your feedback and confirmation of my thoughts.

If your machine is FAV6800AW or FAV9800AW and it completes the wash cycle and fails in spin cycle let’s try this test and see if your machine will pass a TDS sensor check for starters. You will enter to service mode to do a Tub Displacement Sensor check.

Lr error code per the Service Manual = Locked Rotor Locked Rotor: “”The machine has repeatedly tried to turn the motor””.

I have seen the issue caused by a Failed Motor Controller and Failed Control Board and to my surprise a Failed TDS sensor just recently. Because your machine will run thru the wash cycle and fails in spin cycle let’s try the TDS check for a start point.

Here is the test post back with your results and we will go from there.

Some handy links if you are going to DIY the repair; the Service Manual for reference. Sears Parts Direct for reference

Here is the test give it a try;

Tub Displacement Sensor Diagnostics check. You will lift the washer lid and do this check.

It is possible the Tub Displacement Sensor may have failed try this check which is in the Troubleshooting guide stored in your washer console or refer to the SM.

a. Enter the Service Mode by pressing and holding the Enviro Plus and Spin Only keys for three seconds or the display reads “00”

b. Press the Super Wash key display reads “in”…something like that.

c. Press Delicates the Display will show “UC” (Unbalance Closed).

d. Push tub to the back right corner of the machine the display should change to “UO” (Unbalance open). Release tub and the display will show “UC” (Unbalance Closed).

e. Press Hand Wash.

f. Pull tub to the front left corner while pushing the tub down the display should change to “UO” (Unbalance open). Release tub and the display will show “UC” (Unbalance Closed).

If you get these results your TDS sensor should be just fine.

- Very sorry to hear that wazione,

Yep the Motor Controller is on the right hand front of the washer base. The SM will take ya thru the front panel removal. If the washer wash cycle works meaning the motor turns CW driving the tumblers to rotate it may be an issue with the Motor Controller as you state it’s the closet component to the floor.

My understanding is the Motor Controller takes single phase 120VAC and converts it to 3 phase 120VAC to control motor speed and direction. It’s controlled by the PWM signal, Torque input at JP4 on the Motor Control Board from the Control Board.

In spin cycle the PWM signal from the Control Baord signals the Motor Controller to reverse the direction of the motor to turn in the CCW direction. The roller clutches lock up and rotate the Spinner Support CCW spinning the tranny CCW and the Wash basket CCW.

I don’t know of any sure fire way to fault isolate without having known good parts to swap out the Motor Controller, Control Board and Motor. Ya could remove the Motor Control Board and check for corrosion/conduction paths on the traces and the edge card connections and plugs. I would invest in a small can of acetone and acid brush if a cleanup looks called for.

I’ll attach some links I fine handy, you may already have. It sounds like you pulled the Troubleshooting guide out of the Console. The first two digits of your S/N are the series of your machine mine are 16. So for items like the pressure switch I would us series 15 part. The Motor Controller is the same for all series.

Good luck with your trouble shooting… Rich aka dh1200s
