I have been unable to power up my GPS with batteries,  12v  adapter or the wall power supply.  Do you know of  others who have had similar problems and where could i get a service for this product?

Can the Garmin GPS 78s be charged in the car? Also, what is the best car holder available? Thank you.

You can purchase 12v power cords for your unit but they will not charge the units batteries. The cord will only provide power to keep the unit on. But here is a link

Garmin gps powers off even when fully charged

If you're "recharging" via the car charger - you might want to try charging via USB jack on your computer - or AC adapter (if your GPS shipped with one) for 5 or more hours.

Many Garmin units develop this condition when used strictly in the car / cigar outlet power source. While connected to your computer, you should go to Garmin's website and download, install & run the "webupdater" software. When complete, your Garmin GPS will have the latest firmware and patches to the software (not maps!).

After charging via USB or AC adapter, your GPS should stay on. If your GPS turns on via a slide switch on the top, Slide the switch from OFF and hold in the ON position for 10 seconds before letting go of the switch. This should force a "boot" on the GPS.

If you're unable to get the device to power up, contact Garmin Support to determine if your device is affected by a a recent battery recall or if there are other suggestions they have to solve the problem.

I hope this helps!

My Garmin 765t won't power on. Anything I can do

Unfortunately, there is not a lot of easy user troubleshooting for Garmin units. I will note that the AC adapter that plugs in the USB port will give the unit more power than a USB connection to a computer or the 12vDC car adapter. If you've tried connecting it to the AC adapter and it still won't come on, it is possible the internal battery has gone bad and is consuming more power than the supply can produce to both charge and power up the unit. You can try leaving it plugged into the AC adapter for an hour or so and then trying to power it up with the AC adapter plugged in.

Let me know what you've done so far to troubleshoot and I'll research some more for you.

After my Garmin accepts power from my car but it does not get past the "loading maps" stage. All I get is the Garmin logo? Please help!

You are using the incorrect power lead there are two available on to connect to your PC for updated this one can't be used the in the car even with a USB to 12V adapter.

You will need to buy the correct car version that is just 12V DC straigh intto the Garmin this one is just used for recharging in your car.

As far a I know Garmin is the only type of SatNav that has this Pequliarity with the leads.

I3 garmin sat nav keeps switching off when power lead is in then will only come on from battery power

Power jacks are often designed to switch off the battery when inserted, to save battery life, on devices with non-rechargeables.

If your device switches off, when the adapter is inserted, then it sounds like the power supply is either unplugged from the wall / car, or is broken, or has a blown fuse.

I just received the Garmin C340 GPS as a gift from my daughter.

Only use Garmin approved power connector either AC or DC (cigarette lighter adapter), otherwise you risk ruining your unit. The DC power adapter actually step down the voltage from 12vdc to 5vdc. Using anything other than a Garmin approved adapter can fried the unit.
