I have a Magic Chef stand alone oven, Model # 31213wav...all the burners work fine as did the oven until it just went out while cooking a ham. Now it won't light. It doesn't even try. Someone told me it may be the thermocouple but I don't even see a reference for it on the numerous web sites I've visited. Any ideas on how to troubleshoot the problem by process of elimination? Thank you.
I have the same maytag, same model, same problem. I notice that the igniter does heat up to glowing red. I have been told that this is not hot enough but fail to understand how it controls the gas valve that allows gas to the burner. I bought a new igniter on faith as the stove is at my cabin and hopefully it will work when I get out there. Can you explain if it is the amperage to the igniter that controls the flow to the valve. I assume that there is some safety mechanism that does not allow the gas valve to open if the igniter is substandard but I haven't got an understandable explanation as yet.
Thanks for your help.
you should have an igniter set up in the oven follow the the front of the burner to the end (back) you should see the igniter follow the wires from the igniter to the elec- safety valve unplug those two wires and tape them together make sure stove is unplugged before you start his process. now plug in oven does igniter light if yes safety valve is bad if no unplug oven from outlet unwrap tapped wires and reinstall them where they came from it would help if you had a ohm meter cut th wires coming out of the igniter not too short in case you have to reconnect them but you will need ceramic wire nuts the do not melt after you cut the wires from the igniter check for continuity @ the igniter no continuity means bad igniter ,i doubt the thermostat is bad but we can troubleshoot it tommorrow if these steps dont work
