Question about Averatec 3200 Notebook

Power jack repaired now comp shuts down

The power jack plug was loose (battery light would flicker on & off when plug was moved), I removed & resoldered. Now the connection is fine but after using the computer for several minutes it will suddenly shut off. No "hibernating" window or anything, just shuts off. Will restart but just does it again. Any suggestions? Thanks

The power jack plug is still loose. Tad risky opening up the shell like that, perhaps the problem was deeper than just the jack....I am curious if it can do a full battery charge if you left it recharge for a couple of hours.

You have a DC connector problem:

Symptoms of a broken power jack
1. If you wiggle the power cord or the AC Adapter connector on the back of the laptop, the power LED and battery charge LED start to flicker.

I have an ASUS eee netbook. Recently the power cord hasn't been connecting well to the computer and now it doesn't even register. It's plugged in but isn't charging. Is it the cord or the laptop?

You have a bad DC connector, which came loose from the system board:

Problem symptoms:

  1. Laptop randomly shuts down without any warning.
  2. Power LED and battery charge LED start flickering when you wiggle the power cord or the AC adapter tip on the back or your laptop.
  3. The battery will not get charged.
  4. When you plug AC adapter, the laptop appears to be dead and there is no LED activity at all (DC-IN jack on the system board is broken).

Here is a tutorial on how to fix a DC connector problem. You may want to have a tech fix it.

This sounds like you have a bad DC jack on your motherboard. This is one of the most common problems with laptops and can be caused by jarring the DC plug in or hitting it into something or simply from normal use. As a result the pins on the DC jack become loose and consequently do not provide a charge to the laptop and battery. Wiggling the plug can make the loose pins contact sometimes which would explain why it "sometimes" works when you unplug it and plug it back in. Of course if this is the case then your battery is mostly out of power and that is why it powers off after a couple seconds. This repair costs between $150-300 from a professional repair shop and I would not recommend trying it yourself unless you've had experience soldering DC jacks
Another issue could be the CPU fan/heat skin if this is failing or the CPU is overheating the laptop will power off.
Please comment if you need further assistance
