How did you reset the wireless router back to the factory defaults?
Did you use the Reset button on the back of the D-Link?
The encryption setting is set in the router's wireless configuration.
After the router has been set to the factory default, connect a LAN cable to the wireless router and open IE browser and enter the configuration IP address (http://192.168.0.1) the default login = admin and the PW = blank (just press enter)
Then change to default password so it prevents anyone changing the router's wireless configuration.
The encryption default should be not be enabled.
Change the SSID so you and your guests can identify your wireless router.
You can enable encryption if you wish to prevent unauthorized access, but you need to advise your guests of the encryption key.
