Washed a rather heavy rug, on _cotton/Heavy" The machine "beeped" for end of cycle, but the tub didnot drain, nor did it spin. Subsequently, when attempting to run on any other cycle, the tub (with dirty water) would spin one way slowly, and then reverse.

Have you checked the filter? if it is blocked the machine will know it has not emptied and will do odd cycles but not work, a google search will reveal the location of the filter, except my new maytag that has none so a turn over and dismantle it the only option, after bailing,
