    Hi Smeags,
i have the ps3 connected to my tv via HDMI.The problem arises when i try to connect the ps3 to another tv in my sons room.I am connecting through the component cable following the instructions in the ps3 manual but it does not work.Same applies if i try to connect to my other tv via component cable. So i am only able to use the ps3 via HDMI.I have a sony bravia and a samsung CRTV.

Hi Tom,

I hope I can assume that you have a relatively new TV. I will go through both scenarios.

If your TV supports hdmi cables then you should plug one end of the cable from the PS3 and the other end to your tv in the HDMI input. Make sure on your TV you go to menu - external inputs and navigate to the HDMI mode then you will be fine.

IF you are not using a HDMI cable, then I hope i can assume that you are using component (3 cables of red blue and yellow). Same principles these cables should go from your ps3 to your tv and select the appropriate AV input on your tv for it to work. Note if you are using component cables you will also need to plug the sound cable to your tv or via your receiver.

If you could provide me with more information on your tv model, if you are hooking up your ps3 via a receiver or not then i can help you more promptly.

    hi Tom

PS3 sends out progressive 1080p signals, the best signal you can get with component is 1080i. You may want to setup your ps3 to a lower resolution on the PS3 before you connect it to your son's room. Also when you connect the component cables in you will need to select the correct input(AV type) on your samsung crt.

I will take my PS3 out and connect it to an old TV to test your situation tonight and post my findings. Can you be a bit clearer on the what happens? ie. are you using one cable for video and two for sound or are you using the 3 color cable just for the picture and sound to another source?

How to tune thomson tv 14MG135

first is to get it from AV mode which suggests it is on one of the rear audio/video inputs.

If no source or Tv video button on remote look in the menu--once off the AV input it should be able to tune.

Direct hookup with cable or what?

I have a ps3 60gb capatible for the ps2 I have it hooked up to the TV but its not showing anything on the TV I have the High Def connectors for the TV

It is a known problem with some high def connectors not working properly. The following should be checked before concluding there is a problem
1. Ensure you have your TV tuned to the right output station for as your ps3 is connected.(for example you cannot have your ps3 connected to the second set of av ports on your tv and your tv is on av1, it has to be on av2)
2. Cross-check the functionality of your ps3 using the default av cables that come with it so as to know if your cable or console is faulty.
3. Ensure that you high-def cables are properly connected.
If all the above prove abortive, you have to see a repairer to check-up your ps3 or tv

Usually you have to use a couple of external AV Inputs. for the DVD and the Cable goes into the Componet/SVHS input, OR IF TV has a "Cable" "Antenna" socket, an "F" Connector (Female) You can hook up that way and "Tune" your cable channels. Now If you connect up to the Video in, on TV, you must also use corresponding Audio Channel as well. See ir depends on, how many and what sort of inputs you have. But usually you have a couple of AV inputs selectable via menu. Usually Yellow, Video, Red & White, Audio.

I have an older but operable Sanyo VWM-700 4 head hi-fi VCR to connect to an older but operable 13" TV just to watch workout video cassettes(via cable, no cable box necessary). How are the connections made...

You connect the Antenna to the VCR, you connect the AV OUT from VCR to AV IN on TV.(Yellow, Red & White) (Doesn't matter as long as color to color) Then you TUNE the VCR to the channels and the TV simply acts as a monitor. You must tune the TV to the OUTPUT from the VCR. If ya play a tape and look for the signal on the TV, to "Tune it in" to the VCR. first. then go to tuner.
