Re: Preset

Without knowing any more about your system I can only give you a couple of general ideas.
First try updating to the newest video card drivers possible.
You can try going to the drivers tab in display adapters in device manager and click update drivers.
Failing this, if your system is more than a few years old you will probably have to update to a more current video card to get the resolution that you need.
The native resolution for your screen is 1280x1024.

Comes on then goes off right away.

As a test, I would suggest setting the video resolution on the computer down to 800x600 or 1024x768 and plug the bad monitor back in. You do not have to turn off the computer to swap out the video cable between monitors. If the "bad" monitor works now, then it is most likely that some how the resolution or refresh rate got set to a mode the monitor did not support. If it is working, you can start increasing the resolution to higher numbers. Most OS's will ask if the new setting is OK and if you do not click OK it will go back to the original setting.

If the "bad" monitor does not work at 800x600 or 1024x768 then as suggested in a previous post, the monitor is bad. If it is really expensive, you can try and have it fixed. In most cases it is like a toaster, you can get it fixed but will pay double or more what you could buy a new one for.

Thanks, Jim

Hi, Monitor is acer x193hql 18". Have just reformatted my HDD and installed XP (Was XP previously) Resolution now seems to be stuck at 800x600. Have tried Control...

So you say you formatted hey? This seems to be a problem with the GPU (Graphics Processing Unit) and not the monitor itself. Try re-installig and VGA drivers for your graphics card, if you are using on-board graphics, then install the VGA drivers that came with the motherboard.

Resolution notice it says the best picture quality change to resalition to 1024x768 1 exit 2 disable how do i get rid of it

LCD monitors have what is called a native resolution. This is what the actual/physical display resolution is. When you try to display outside of this then you get the error. The easiest way to get rid of this is to set you video display resolution to the native monitor resolution.

If you look at the message it is saying if you hit 2 it will disable the error. To change the resolution in windows you can just right click anywhere on the desktop that is empty. This brings up the display properties. Go to the settings tab. At the lower left is a slider. Just slide it to show the desired display size in your case try the 1024x768 setting then hit apply. The screen will change and a nother window should pop up and ask if you want to keep the settings. If you take too long or say no it just resets to the prior settings. You can change it at any time.

1024x768 is a good setting it is high enough that the display is clean and sharp. And most web pages are designed around this size. Try it not only to get rid of the error but also to see what everything looks like. You can always change it back.

I have samsung syncmaster 740nw how can i increase screen resolution to 1024x768?

you cannot set the resolution to 1024x768 but instead try 1280x720 or if you have graphics card try to set the resolution using its custom resolution by setting 1280x768.
It will surely solve your problem.

Blurred screen

There is the possiblility that this program may have corrupted the video driver or a similar issue.
You may be able to go to system restore and back the computer up a day before you installed that program...all your settings will go back to that point but any data you have added will still be there.

Monitor displaying out of range message

Hello and Welcome to FixYa!

This usually happens when you select a resolution or a refresh rate that is beyond the monitor range. For example if your monitor supports a max. resolution of 1024x768 then if you give it a signal of 1600x1200 it will display out of range.

Solution of this problem is to reduce the resolution or refresh rate frequency.

Changing screen resolution in Windows XP: First right-click on the desktop and then left click on Properties from the menu that appears.

The display properties dialogue box will appear as shown in fig 1.1 below, click on the settings tab at the top right of the box.

The areas worth noting are:

Screen Resolution
This slide bar is what you use to change the resolution, the options you have will depend on your graphics card and monitor, but the standard options are 800x600, 1024x768 and 1152x864.

Normally the default (in XP) is set to 800x600 which means the display will be 800 pixels wide and 600 pixels high.

How to Change the Screen Refresh Rate of Your Monitor loadTOCNode(2, 'summary');
  1. Click Start, click Control Panel, click Appearance and Themes, and then click Display.

Alternatively, right-click the desktop, and then click Properties.
  2. Click the Settings tab, and then click Advanced.
  3. Click the Monitor tab, and then click the screen refresh rate that you want to use.
  • The default refresh rate setting is 60 Hertz (HZ); however, your monitor may support a higher setting. Check your manufacturer's documentation for information about the settings that your monitor supports.
  • If you use a higher refresh rate, you can reduce the rate that your screen flickers; however, if you specify a refresh rate that is too high for your monitor, your screen may become unusable and your hardware may be damaged.
  • Changes to the refresh rate affect all users that log on to the computer.

Kindly rate me if i was helpful.

I tried the following options and neither worked. 1) Hitting the monitor buttons as stated only got me a "digital" message and then the monitor went black as usual. Never got to any menu options. 2) Going into Safe Mode and changing the monitor settings or downloading/installing the correct driver didn't stick once you went back to the normal startup.

I didn't have another monitor handy to swap out so I had to be a little more creative. The only solution that worked for me is re-booting (F8 during startup) into the mode "Enable VGA Mode". This allowed me to go into the normal desktop with a screen resolution of 800x600. I went online, found the driver, downloaded it to the desktop. Deleted the video driver (Device Manager), installed the downloaded version, rebooted problems.

I have Windows XP. Hope that helps. :)

Not optimum mode

This means your computer windows resolution is not display in the correct resolution which your samsung LCD will take.

What you need to do it boot the computer in safe mode. (pressing F8 at start up and select safe mode) This should bring the windows to start up in the generic 800x600 resolution.

Once you are able to see the display in safe mode, go onto the display properties and change the resolution.
* right click on desktop -> properties -> settings

Please rate this if it solves your issue. If you need further assistance please post.

Screen goes blank after 2 seconds

Do you have the video set to a range that this display cannot handle? Try rebooting into Safe Mode and set the resolution down to 800x600 or 1024x768 and see if it that will get you back. If so, then look up the specs of the display and set it no higher than it's max.

If it physicaly powers OFF, then you probably have a power issue.
