Remove the lower panel if you haven't already. Inspect the rubber seal/boot/bellows you spoke of. You'll likely find a tear in it somewhere, or a hole. Short of repairing it with a rubber tire/tube patch kit, it'll need to be replaced. I've seen many do-it-yourself-ers have success with the repair kits or some other epoxy/adhesive type fix.
(Be careful you don't want something that's going to come of during use and damage your clothing)

We have a GE front load washer and dryer. Our washer has recently begun stopping throughout the was cycle, usually during the rinse and drain/spin. We have to continuously restart in order to finish the load. Do you know what could be causing this issue? Thank you
