It depends on the type of internet service you have if it is cable internet most cable modems can act as a gateway for conecting multiple computers but the cable company needs to activate that feature on the modem.

Hi,
A 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
Best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
The service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
Good luck!

How to connect des-1005d

The new model. Just plug it in. No configurations. Any port for any use. The selling point is unmanaged. Look for the problem somewhere else (including the cables) till you are sure it's the switch. Then it needs to be replace.

The older model uses standard cabling practices, but still very versatile.

Hi, you have to set up your printer as a device that can be communicated in your LAN by the two PCs.

To set up your printer properly in the LAN, you need to assign a fixed IP to this printer such that whenever it is switch on again, both PC still communicate to this printer without changing the new IP assigned to this printer.

You need to set up this fixed IP properly in your DLink router. For guidance please check this in your user manual of the Dlink. Please let me know any problem you may have again in future.

Hello, Got a D-Link 1005D 5x100 Im having 2 computeres atm, but i cna only get one to work. When i plug the internet cables from the computers to the D-link router, only one can work, please...

Your D-Link is a "switch", not a "router".
So, every computer that you connect will require a _UNIQUE_ IP-address.

However, your account with your Internet Service Provider is only granting you *ONE* IP-address.
Upgrade your account to pay a few dollars more per month, to get additional IP-address(es).

Buy a D-Link Router, for under $50, and connect both computers to the 'LAN' ports,
and connect the 'WAN' port to your cable-modem (or DSL-modem).

Hi, it seems as it get stuck, stop all trafic. After disconnection and reconnect it works again, Any ideas?? Lights flckers as if trafic is going on /Steen

Take a look at the location you have it placed in. These off the shelf solutions are nice quick fixes but they over heat easily. This causes the firmware to crash. So you reset 'em and all is well again. Until it overheats again. Check out Ubiquiti's bullet router. I've got one running 100 computers and I havn't had an issue with it yet.

Re:D-Link dgs-1005d mounting plates

For this as per my knowledge there are no extra mounting plates comming commercially. But itself having some mounting tools such as wall plug, screw etc. in it's package....and for permanent installation if you need it very much you can order such thing in turning workshop...but try to use it in friendly environment....because those are heat and hazard sensitive for heavy duty.....All the best.

It probably isn't an overload the flashing lights are probably the new device doing a broadcast trying to find something that will tell it how to configure its network port. This process is called DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol)

Normally your router would be automatically configured to be a DHCP server. If you have not needed to manually configure TCP/IP on your desktop computer then You have a DHCP server turned on somewhere.

Your next step should be to find out where your DHCP server is and if your new device has contacted it. Find the manual for your router and have a read about how to configure it expecialy the bits about DHCP.

Then open a command prompt. Sometimes called a dos prompt by typing cmd in the start run box and type ipconfig /all The Default gateway should tell you the IP number of your router. type that IP number into a web browser like this. http://192.168.0.1 (or what ever it is) you should see a configuration logon page for your router. The username and password will be in your users manual or just google it. From here go into the DHCP server screens and you should be able to see what IP numbers have been assigned on your network. Hopefully one of them will be your new device. Also you need to make sure that you only ever have one DHCP server on your network. PC's can also perform this function. If you have more than one running it will very dificlut to diagnose. If you see ip conflict errors this is probably the cause.

Netowrking is complex and there is lots you need to know all at once. Luckily home networks are relatively simple once you know what all the pieces are. This should give you a taste of what you need to learn about.

Good luck :)

Vista cannot connect to xp printer

It sounds like your are using your Windows XP computer as the print server, and you are trying to connect your Windows Vista machine to the Windows XP print server. Your Vista machine is trying to download the XP drivers from the Windows XP computer to your Vista machine. This won't work. Windows XP and Vista print drivers are not compatible.

If the printer is truely networked (it has it's own IP address on the network, it has its own ethernet connection). Then instead of trying to map out to this shared printer, add new printer to the Vista machine using Vista drivers for the HP Deskjet 3940. The type of port you would need is a standard TCP/IP port. To get this address, print a settings page from the printer. Look for either a TCP/IP address or IP address on this print out. This is the port address you want to create and then connect to.

Connecting xbox live to my d link 1005d

Is the PC's connected to the D-Link able to browse the Internet? Sometimes the MAC Address will bind to certain IP's and must be cleared out when the Router is replaced. Please unplug the power to the router, X-Box and Cable or DSL modem. 1st plug in the power to the DSL/Cable modem until the "Ready" light comes on. 2nd plug in the power to the D-Link Router, wait 30 seconds then plug in the X-Box, power on and test. If a computer plugged into the D-Link will browse Internet then this is the solution to your problem.

Set up both pc's with dhcp. To do this, right click (My Network Places) in the start menu and choose properties. Right click your network connection and again choose properties. Click Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) and then select properties. Choose (Obtain an IP Address Automatically). Then (OK) and again (OK). Do this on both pc's.
