Pretty sure my son got a virus. Computer wouldn't start windows. Can't get it to even run the System Restore disk. Keep getting blue screen saying: "The instruction at 0x%081x referenced memory at 0x%081x. The required data was not placed into memory because of an I/O error status of 0x%081x." Not sure what to do at this point.

- thanks Andrea,
Can you talk me through formatting my hard drive? I don't have a Windows CD- didn't come with the computer when we bought it. I do have the System Restore CD, but the laptop won't register it, even when I change the boot order to boot from the CD drive. Thanks
Well, that spesific error mesage is because of a hard drive failure. I notice that this same problem occurs more in portable devices, such as laptops. The thing is, that if the laptop was droped during the days previous of this error, the mechanism will still run but the disc will have so many bad sectors that you will not be abvle to use it anymore.
I would suggest that you try formatting the drive first and see if it works, otherwise get a new drive. Hope this can help you.
Best regards
Andrea

My Toshiba Satellite screen has dimmed where I can barely see the items. This occured when I booted the laptop up today. There was nothing that happened prior to this. When I connect a secondary monitor it works fine. I have tried to brighten and dim the screen to no avail. Please help!
