I would recommend you to use Windows xp to format your device...If you tried to format your device using vista it might brake the player..therefore use a windows xp windows media player to format the drvice..if after you format the device you are still having the problem, i would recommend you to get a firmware upgrade for the device..that should solve the problems you are having...

Do you have any computer with windows xp operating system? If you dont have any computer with xp;..go to the sandisk website and do the firmware upgrade...and see if that works..let me know if you are a computer with windows xp...we can try to format your device inside windows media player...

Open up your windows media player..click on sync tab...then your device is going to be listed on the left side of your screen...right click on it and hit format...its going to say formatting will erase everything...disrgard that..if after you do that you are still not able to boot it..go http://www.sandisk.com/Retail/Default.as... and download the firmware for you device...let me know what the outcome is....

Stucked at Refresh database

When the Sansa reads "refreshing database," what it is doing is going through all the songs you've loaded on to it, pulling out the "tag" information (Artist, Album, Song Title, Genre) so it can add this information to its own database which it uses to display the songs to you in its menus.

If it gets stuck during this process, usually it's because of a corrupt song file, or a song file in a format it doesn't understand.

Note that the e280 is only able to play MP3 and WMA audio formats. If you've loaded a different type of audio file onto your Sansa, you'll need to remove them.

If the songs you've recently loaded have all been MP3 and/or WMA, you may have loaded a corrupted file onto your Sansa. Try removing the songs you recently added, and see if the problem goes away.

Sandisk sansa e280 will not down load songs

The Sansa player will only recognize certain file formats. The songs with a Red X are not eligible to be transferred to your player, because their DRM license does not allow transfer to certain (or any) mp3 players.

It is best to use songs that are in mp3 format only. They will give you fewer headaches.

iTunes songs will not work with this player.

I can't load no more than 60 songs

You have auto-sync enabled - disable it

Disable auto-sync in Windows Media Player - Microsoft's website explains it far better than I can

Open Windows Media Player WITH the mp3 player connected
Highlight Sync, click on the arrow to bring down drop-dow menu
Select Set Up Sync
Uncheck box that says "automatically sync files to device"

About the sansa e280 not loading songs....

You may have an earlier version of Windows Media Player, before they had a Sync button - I would suggest upgrading to Windows Media Player 11 by going to:
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/player/11/default.aspx

Sorry to say, nothing is easier to use than a brand name iPod

Loading music on to it from windows media play

The song could have drm encryption or it could be in the wrong format.

Go ahead and do this, in case the DB is corrupted:
Format - Erases Everything: Connect your Sansa player to the computer and open Windows Media Player. Click on the Sync tab. Pull down the drop down menu underneath the Sync tab by moving your cursor over the Sync tab and left clicking on the little black arrow underneath the Sync tab. Highlight "Sansa 1GB" (wording may vary slightly), and then select "Format." - this should erase everything.
Firmware Upgrade- Erases Everything: Get the latest firmware upgrade from Sansa - it updates the firmware and erases every song in the player all at once. Note: this method doesn't work if already have the latest firmware. Go to this website and click "Firmware Updater" to find out: http://www.sandisk.com/Retail/DriverDownloads.aspx

When i connect to the computer, i can add songs, but the songs on it dont show up

I don't know if you've inadvertently deleted the music folder, but that's what I did, when I deleted all the folders by mistake, thank heavens for in-store warrenty, they replaced it with another one. What I noticed on my replacement is synchronizing with media player doesn't work, it creates ghost folders and thinks music is there when it isn't, I don't understand it. Solution: open two windows for my music and sansa e280 music, then just drag and drop the folders; what I noticed is that in my music the folders are named by artist, and I prefer to see them by album, but when I view them in the player, I see the albums with the tracks in the right order.
