I don't have experience with the XboX, but make sure it is a WORKING controller, try replacing batteries if it is wireless. Or try to put the controller in and out of the controller slot.

1.press the centre button 2.press the small button on top of the controller3.press the same button but now on the console
4.wait
if that dont work then idk
