Question about Sony PlayStation 2 Slimline Console

Ps2 slim line

Ps2 slimline wont spin disks. removed top and replaced the laser with carrage that has the worm drive. held the 3 sensors down and turned power on, no response from laser, wont move in any way.Tryed putting old one back in and the only difference was the laser imitted a momentary red light when power first applied. So disk wont spin and laser seems dead even when manually moved to a different position.
oh yes this all started when it was dropped from small hight, before this it was ok. power lights seem to be ok

Re: ps2 slim line

If the laser is moved to the middle of the area and when you first turn it on it doesn't go back to starting possession's then some thing is wrong with the motor drive more than not it's likely you have a crack in the board.

Disk wont spin

The lens assembly is directly associated with a non spinning disk issue.

Here was my situation.

I purchased a used PS2 slim from an ebay seller that had the disk read error. I bought another lens from another ebay seller and when installed it, the disk would not spin. I then replaced the new lens assembly with my old one and the disk started spinning again but I still had the disk read error. I contacted the seller to send me a replacement lens assembly for the defective one I received.

Bottom line is if your lens assembly is bad, the disk will not spin. You can replace the lens assembly for about $4 or $5 on ebay.

This mostly occurs to all slimline PS2 it is a common problem.

My son tripped over our friends ps2 and it fell to the floor upside down. The PS2 goes but the drive does not go.Any ideas how to fix this problem" Thanks

There are quite a few things that can cause a disc read error on the slim PS2. The most frequent is a bad laser, however, here is some useful troubleshooting info:

1. "Lid Closed Sensors" There are two "lid closed sensors" in the slim PS2. In a fall, it's possible that one or both have become damaged. Remove the top of the PS2 and try depressing both sensors with a game inside. The laser should move up and down at least???

IF YES, try again with the lid on... if the laser doesn't move when you close the lid, then the top casing of your PS2 cracked in the fall and is no longer depressing the lid closed sensors.

==> If the laser moves up and down OK but does not read discs, your laser was damaged in the fall. See below for a website with more troubleshooting info, pictures, and replacement cases and lasers.

IF NO, you have a bad lid closed sensor -- these are not really replaceable easily -- you may be better off replacing the whole PS2 if one or both of these lid closed sensors goes bad.

Ps2 slim will not spin disk i have cleaned everything inside everything seems to be working normally yet the disk wont spin

If you have removed the cover and cleaned the glass laser eye lens unit, then the laser lens motor is faulty.

Open the case up and remove the CD cover. Be careful of the Reset Eject button cable when you remove the top cover. Best to Lift the cover from the rear slightly, pull it forward, then roll it over from left to right and lay it upside down with the ribbon cable still attached.
Remove the CD cover. Clean the lens of the laser with a q-tip lightly dampened with glass cleaner. use the dry end of the Q-tip to dry it. Get a Can of Air from Radio Shck and with little force, blow out from under the lens. Clean off the Worm gear that moves the laser back and forth. make sure no lint or hair is wrapped around the motor that spins the disc. Use the can of air to Blow out the Fan of dust. Test it out, good luck.
If you still have trouble, you can cantact a repair shop by Clicking on "Repair Directory" at the bottom of this page. Choose "Video Game Consoles" on the next screen.

Disc won't spin... laser doesn't come on...

ok...well all of you people are just **** him! the actual problem is that you probably dropped the ps2 and the case lid got a bit lose...... what you have to do (if you dont want to buy a whole ps2 case again) is tap the ps2 on the top of the lid when it goes into the cd browser screen and it will work perfectly fine just make sure you dont tap i too hard or else we will have another!

Disks wont spin on new laser

Did you remove the anti static solder blob (point) on your new laser with a soldering iron and solder wick prior to installing it? The symptons your explaining indicate that point is still intact, If so you will need to carefully remove it first then reinstall the laser and try again.

Disk wont spin

First of all the new laser lens will not allow your Slim to read NTSC UC games if you have a PAL european Console.

There is no reason the New laser should have not read the disc unless it Came to you damaged. It sounds like you know how to replace a laser.
