I had the same problem with the same player for some DVDs. Fortunately, for me, there is a solution that has worked 100% of the time.

I am assuming you are probably setting the DVD player to upconvert to 1080 i or p. What you need to do is go to DVD setup and change the resolution back to standard def (480i) just for the menus. The menus will now work properly. Once the movie starts you can switch it back to 1080i/p with no problem.

Toshiba sd-v295 tunerless DVD VCR Combo To Sony Digital TV Instructions

It will depend on if the Toshiba has an HDMI socket. If it has then the Sony TV will almost certanily have one. Then all you need do is get a HDMI lead and connect the two. The only other way would be via a SCART lead. If the TV has only one SCART and it's being used you can get a SCART Switching Box from places such as Amazon, where you will also get the other cables.

I got the same problem today. I thought it was a connection on HDMI cable problem. I tried many different options to solve it but nothing was working. After I read your post I realized that my 2 y old boy was playing with the remote before it happened. So I found on menu in DVD player option - default setting- and I pressed it - and bingo - it's working. I used cinch cables instead HDMI while I was fixing - just in case you cannot get the menu screen on tv - good luck

It is an old model I realise but the picture is perfect but the sound is now very garbled

if you get sound from anther recorder that tells me that the head on the current vcr is working, which leaves just the output, if using a antenna switch to channel 4 if using 3 (theres a little switch in the back) if you are using 4 change to 3, if your using audio output cables swap them with a good working pair.
if all is good it would require service (unless the mute is pushed)

or If you have your vcr connected via the RCA audio/video jacks, pull those out.
Or check your tv's menu for sound source selection.

Changed HDMI settings and can't now see image on screen

I did the same thing, if you hold the hdmi select button on the player (not the remote) while ejecting and inserting a dvd, it will reset so you are able to access the setup menu again.

Help!

Try pressing the HDMI button on your remote a couple of times, pause about 5seconds after each press it might be slow to change. If this doesn't work try connecting just the yellow lead(composite video) into the DVD player to the TV like the old days, probably AV1 or AV2 in the back of the TV. Then access the setup menu(setup button on remote). This will bring up a menu. Use the down arrow on the remote until HDMI setup is highlighted. You should then get a selection to turn HDMI on and select the different outputs(576, 720p, or 1080i). You might actually find the picture to be worse on some DVDs.

HDMI ON ILO 32HD

it sounds like there is a problem with either the output on the PS3 or the input on the circuit board of the TV. I would try a reset on the PS3 first. Also make sure that there are no other video or audio cords plugged into the PS3 because this will cause the PS3 not to send the signal via the HDMI.
