Question about Sony KP-53HS10 TV

1 Answer

I have a convergence problem

The t.v. is a sonykp53hs10 april 2001. problem is although all three lamps work fine. the images do not align properly. ie almost an hour glass shape where you have 3 pix in red green and blue that do not line up so i had a sony authorized rep come out to fix. he said it was the convergence amps stk392-020 were bad so he ordered them up and replaced them. we had also checked the icp's for blown fuses but they all check out fine on main board and the power supply board. picture is still the same. there is power going from the power supply board to the main board but is lost when it gets to the convergence amps. if i remember it should be about 15 v but there is no voltage at either amp. i was hoping for a relatively easy fix but it does not seem probable. is there another chip i should be looking for. i do not have the schematics for the tv, neither did the repair tech how do i get schematics. i do know abit of electronics and can use an ohm and voltage meter well but need to know the path of circuitry. i do not have faith in repair tech as he now wants to send the whole board out for rebuild. if it needs to go out is there a place i can send it that would be affordable or a place i can get another rebuilt board if that is what is wrong. thank you in advance for any help you may send my way -dave

My tv had three screen, what do I do to get it off

Sounds like your convergence board went out. This board aligns the Blue image to impose over the Green image and also the Red to again impose over the Green. This will take a TV Technician to replace and to fine tune your TV's image.

I thought i might need a lamp for my mitsubishi tv--model VS 60607 when my tv is fuzzy when turned on.should i simply replace the lamp or is there something else i should try? thank you!

This TV is a rear projection television and does not have a lamp. It has three CRT color guns (Red, Blue, and Green). You have a convergence issue (the red, blue and green color guns aren't aligned properly) and it doesn't sound like a very big one. You should be able to adjust this through the CONVERGENCE Menu in ADVANCED SETTINGS.
More details can be found in your manual, here. The model number isn't exactly the same but I'm sure the process is identical or really close. The other option would be a bad IC (integrated circuit) for the convergence control. This is unlikely unless your picture looks something like this: captainhawk1_15.jpg

My Zenith tv has wild colors and double image. what do i do?

Possible that the lamps are out of alignment resulting in poor convergence of the image.
You might have tto use a test pattern to see if this can be corrected or if this is the fault if the convergence section.

We have a panosonic projection hdtv and the msg on our tv said replace lamp and reset the lamp hour meter well we did that and now its kinda blurry/double vision i called the manufacture and said ill need...

In your tv the image is generated this way: the bulb makes the light; that light is reflected by a panel with a lot of tiny mirrors which generates a black/white image; that image goes thru a set of colored disks on a wheel that rotates which gives the image color; that image goes thru a set of lenses (called the image engine) and it's projected on the screen.
No convergence here - you see the fuzzy image because either the color wheel isn't aligned properly or (more likely) the lenses in the image engine are deformed.
The second one can't be fixed and replacing the lenses will cost more than the tv is worth. You might be able to realign the wheel, but this must be done by someone with a lot of experience and it will be costly.

Tv out of foucs

These procedures are from the owners manual, go into menu and then picture quality and then: Convergence The Convergence feature lets you adjust the TV’s three tubes. When the TV tubes’ images are precisely aligned, they create the color images you see on the screen. Over time, the picture can drift out of alignment (this is normal). If your picture seems fuzzy or has a yellow tint, using Convergence could correct this misalignment. Only one convergence is needed for all inputs, regardless of the signal format. Note: Make sure the TV has been on for at least 30 minutes (TV needs to warm up for best results) before starting Auto Converge or Red/Blue Centering. When you select the Convergence feature, a submenu appears with three options: Auto Converge Automatically aligns the projection lenses to self-correct color images. You’ll see flashing squares of color dance across the screen (this is normal). Note: After performing auto convergence, use the Blue Centering and Red Centering menus to fine tune convergence in the center of the screen, if necessary. Blue Centering Aligns the blue and green images to fine-tune the picture. Red Centering Aligns the red and green images to fine-tune the picture. Note: The ability to change channels is disabled when adjusting the convergence options. The TV must be tuned to a usable signal to converge the picture.

Projection sets have two very common problems.

The first common problem is convergence

These sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the picture to look normal. This is called convergence.

When its out of alignment the video will look 3-D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired. Convergence problems are very common on all Projection TV sets including Sony, Samsung,JVC,Philip Magnavox,Panasonic,Akai,Pioneer, Hitachi,Mitsubishi,Zenith and others.
You can get more information and a DIY convergenece repair kit with instructions from the link below.

Here are some of the most common problems with these sets...

*Screen Looks 3-D
*Colors wont align
*Screen may look distorted or warped
*No Audio/Video - TV Shuts down - May also make a constant chirping sound

Problem #2 - Another common problem is dull or washed out video.

Your set may have one or more of the following symptoms....

*Dull looking picture
*White looking picture
*Halos around objects
*Red/Orange looking picture
