Question about Mitsubishi VS-45605 50" Rear Projection Television

Mitsubishi VS-4541 too much red

My grandmother recently rec'd a handed down Mitsubishi VS-4541.  The picture quality seems way off...too much red, as evidenced by a distinct red cast when switching channels when the screen would normally be all black.  I have attempted to adjust the picture quality via the on-screen menu's to no avail.  Any advice is much appreciated.

Read your answer to this question, and while my model number is different (VS4551) the problem is the same. I tried your fix (took panel off and adjusted pots), but still can't reduce red enough. You mentioned the 'old' tubes...any idea how to get new ones/cost to replace/issues with replacing them myself ?

The set is old and the picture tubes are probably weak. you can pop off the front grill, remove the protective panel to expose the picture tube sockets. On the sockets are controls to increase or decrease the intensity of the colors. The red is on the left ,green center and blue right. Go to a B&W picture or turn the color off, then adjust for the best grey screen.

This model is equipped with a self-diagnosis feature to help with diagnosis of shutdown problems, to activate this turn the unit on let it shutdown then press the input and menu buttons on the front panel simultaneously and hold them in for 5 seconds after 5 seconds the power LED on the front panel will blink a two digit sequence. This will be one set of blinks a short pause then another set of blinks, this will repeat 5 times. 1 - 2 = no error detected 2 - 1 = X-ray protect (high voltage or beam current) 2 - 2 = Short protect (short protect monitors low voltage supplies) 2 - 3 = Deflection protect (this could be loss of vertical or horizontal deflection) 2 - 4 = Vertical protect (usually loss of vertical from the source
