I bought a micro sdhc 4gb card to use for my phone

i bought a micro sdhc 4gb card to use for my phone nokia 5300. when i load the sd card to format it through my phone it would say card not formatted-operation fail. also i could not find the text to format it from my phone.i couldn't format it through my phone. what can i do to format it for my phone?

i have a 1gb card that came with my phone when i go through the file where it would say format it's there but when i switch it to 4gb none of the format file would show.
