Hello from New Zealand, Have to organise price and info in the morning. Do you have any ideas how to reboot a Toshiba satellite P20 It says boot from original start disc, but we do not won?t to lose all the data. Tried to boot in safe mode also the last good configuration, but it keeps going round in circles. Have used compressed air to blow out the cooling fans, also taken battery out for 1 hrs then rebooted but no go! Is it possible to replace the hard drive with a new one, then fix the existing HDD into an external case to then extract data! Or can we extract data through a USP Port or a plug in External HDD We have sent computers to our IT specialist but they always end up losing data. Any help would be appreciated, Regards, Phil.

You can boot from original Windows disk but make sure you choose to repair installation. This will replace all the windows files but will not touch any of your personal data, programs or drivers installed. After youve done this repair install you should be able to start windows and get yourself an external hard drive and back up all data. Maybe then do a complete format and reload operating system to get your laptop running like brand new again. I dont know why your IT specialist has never tried this? Hope this all works fine for you ....... cheers from Scott

Hello

Hi garodi, do you plan do re-install XP on your machine? If you do & you still have the cds that came with the computer, you could use that to re-image your machine like the first time that you got it. It should be around 2-3 discs. Just insert the disc 1 into dvd-drive > restart the machine > press F12 when you see the Toshiba logo > choose cd/dvd from the boot options then it'll boot from the cd, you should see a recovery wizard, just choose every first option and that should be it, it should ask you to insert the second & third disc if it needs it. That recovery process takes around 60-90mins. If you don't have the cds, you can just clean install your way using the retail version of the cd, check this complete guide here.

Hope this helps.

Need new / 2nd hand Toshiba satellite laptop motherboard

Hi timlondonuk,

I don't know if you've ever replaced the motherboard in a laptop, but it can be a serious chore - even damaging to the LCD connector and other devices if you're not careful. Oftentimes the cost of a replacement board is 50-75% of the cost of a new laptop, so you might consider that venue.

If you provide a model number we can help you find prices for the board.
