Question about MSI K7D Master Motherboard

Sudden Reboot with K7D Master MS-6501

Hi,

I am having some trouble with my K7D Master MS-6501 MSI mobo. I've installed all the latest chipset drivers and updated to the newest version of the BIOS and the problem still occurs, it even reboots when I'm using Microsoft Word and other apps such as Photoshop. Which leads me to believe it may be a video card issue. My video card is a nVidia GeForce FX 5500 256MB. I made sure to that the PCI card is installed in the slot closest to the PSU (IRQ 11). I've been researching this for quite some time now and just can't seem to come to a conclusion. I've heard that sometimes this board has issues with USB 2.0 and Creative sound cards, I had installed a SB 24bit Live! but removed it and enabled the onboard audio.

I also disabled automatic restart and the reboots don't give me a BSoD for further info. It appears to be a hardware issue? Ram possibly?

If anyone has any suggestions I would very much appreciate it.

Thanks,
Brian

The ram has been tested in other systems and there doesn't seem to be a problem with them.

Tested with three other monitors, still the same rebooting occurs, thank you very much for you reply.

"Clean heatsink and fan or replace(use silicone on cpu) and check the
mobo is correctly fitted and no shorts are occuring with the fitting
    screws."

I'll give this a try, its an older computer and it seems like a likely solution, both cpu's are running at about 49C and my system is at 22C.

Do you have any suggestion on cleaning the fans and the heatsink and re-seating the processor with silicone?

    Thanks in advance...

What condition is the heatsink and fan In??? It seems to me that the cpu is getting slightly hot and is shutting down to prevent any damage..

Is the motherboard newly installed if so check that it is situated correctly in the tower.

The newest version of the bios may cause the problem as well especially if you used a flash bios program.

It has nothing to do with the IRQ and how close it is situated to the cpu...

Monitors are also prone to this problem have you tried the system on another monitor..

Have you been into the bios and changed the settings for the display??

If the board sometimes may have issues with usb 2.0 and creative sound cards then that will not cause this problem..

Clean heatsink and fan or replace(use silicone on cpu) and check the mobo is correctly fitted and no shorts are occuring with the fitting screws.

Run all the virus control programs as well to make sure there is not a nasty worm working it,s way through the system..

Lastly and most probably the answer is to try or change the monitor..

Take the heatsink and fan off. The fan will unscrew from the heatsink and then with a soft brush clean both as best as you can and also if you can blow something through the both of them to get rid of as much dust as possible..

There is a compressed can of Air you can buy from a good comp shop that will do the trick..

There is no need to remove the cpu from it,s socket, just when replacing the H/s and fan put some silicone also known as Nano compound or heatsink compound ( available from comp shop) on the chip and the replace the H/S..You only need a small amount on the chip...Good Luck

I need driver usb 2.0 for my mother board MSI 865PE/G Neo3 MS-6728 (v3.X)

Windows should find and install the latest themselves, try letting it do a driver search online to find the latest.

Otherwise get from the manufacturer. Try here:
http://www.msi.com/index.php?func=downloaddetail&type=driver&maincat_no=1&prod_no=600

The chipset drivers should do it.
