Re: paper jam on brother HL5140

You will have to take the printer apart if it's stuck in the fuser on the back, if you can grab a small part of the paper turn printer on while lightly pulling on it in the direction of the paper path, if not, Carefully take the cover off and remove it

hope this help
Good luck

Stuck paper tray

If the tray is stuck it may be caused by some obstruction at the rear, possibly the pickup roller.
Remove the small rear cover that gives you access to paper jams and check that there is not something jammed in there or if the paper pickup roller is stopping the tray from exiting.

Continuous problem with my HL5140...paper light is flashing, but there is nothing in path! Started doing this about 1 year ago, but becoming more frequent with age. Hmmmmmm?

As laser printers age occasionally the pickup rollers need to be changed. Other possible problems include non-visible paper jams (In which case you would need to disassemble the printer to remove) or even maintenance counters that have run down.

Paper feed jams. feeds from lower tray, turns 180 deg. then jams. Single sheet feed is fine

while keeping the paper .. ensure that it is properly stacked... fan the paper and ensure that it is not stuck to each other.. also open the printer cover and see if any paper is stuck inside..

Try to open the rear access door ,and clean the paper roller with slightly damp lint free cloth

Rear paper jam

Paper jams can be tricky to solve. The paper is usually stuck inside the printer mechanism so even if there is no visible paper jam, you will still get the paper jam error. Try this:

1. Turn off your printer
2. Open all trays and remove any paper stuck there
3. Locate the button to open the printer, open it and remove any paper stuck there also.
4. Repeate the above step for all buttons that you can find to access the inside of the printer
5. Close all doors and put back all trays
6. Turn on your printer

The printer is jammed and i can get it out....thus

Using your printer's manual or by accessing online support, seek the way to open the panel to access the paper stuck in the printer. Gently, take the sheet out and the printer will work as good as before. Hope this helps.

How do I clear paper jams?
If a paper jam occurs, the Paper LED will flash as shown below.
c_panel_cover_open.gif Caution
After you have used the printer, some parts inside the printer are extremely hot. When you open the front cover or face-up output tray of the printer, never touch the shaded parts shown below.
  1. Remove the paper tray from the printer.
  1. Pull the jammed paper up and out of the printer.
  1. Open the front cover.
  1. Pull out the drum unit and toner cartridge assembly slowly. The jammed paper will be pulled out with the drum unit and toner cartridge assembly.

  1. Open the back cover.
  1. Pull the tab toward you to open the rear chute cover.

  1. Close the back cover.
  1. Push the lock lever down and take the toner cartridge out of the drum unit. Take out the jammed paper if there is any inside the drum unit.

  1. Put the paper tray firmly back in the printer.
