Question about MP3 & Digital Media Players
Ordered and ipod nano 4gb from apple for daughter for chiristmas, I initially loaded a minimal amount of music onto it, packed it back up, and then took it back out christmas eve. It would only work when plugged into the computer usb, or icraig radio. as soon as it is disconnected from either, the screen goes black and it will not come back on.
If you just bought ist automatically set on off if you hold the play button and the hold button is on off is should turn on. otherwise you can try resetting it by flipping the hol switch from on to off then holding the menu and center button for 5 secons. If that doesn't work you should send it back to Apple for repairs or replacement

When you get a new ipod you have to charge it for 5+ hours the first time its turned on. If you don't, then the battery never reaches its full potential and it will only operate on the amount of battery stored during that initial charge. If you turned it on and put a few songs on before placing it back in the box, this would ensure the battery to be near-dead at all times.
Solution: go to apple and tell them you don't know why it wont work; it's thier fault.

I had exactly the same problem. How i fixed it was to open the ipod up and dissconnect the clickwheel from the board on the ipod. It is a flexible tanned piece of plastic. I also removed the tanned piece of plastic that connects the screen but dont know if it was necessary. I ended up breaking the screen in the process and had to order another on ebay. Putting the ipod back together was a little challenging and the backing plate does not go right on anymore however I did fix the problem. See http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=Ee3KDxVQKtw
