Mitsubishi WS 65807 issue-

Pressing power button turns unit on for about 5 seconds and then the power shuts off. Unplugged for about 30 seconds and disconnected it from all other equipment, reconnected power, then video cables- no change. It does respond to power command from remote control.

Thanks for any assistance.

- I called him and the code is 2-1, X-Ray protection. I had seen some other comments about 2-2 and it being the convergence output IC and that would have been nice, but that would have been too easy. Does the X-Ray protection have anything to do with the donuts on the yokes?

The model you have selected should have a self check feature: when turns off and the green power light goes off:

ON THE FRONT OF THE SET PRESS AND HOLD BOTH MENU AND INPUT(some sets the input is called device) together for at least 5 seconds and then release both buttons.

The power light should blink a two digit error code: for example: 2 blinks, a pause and 2 blinks--it will repeat the code about 10 times.

error codes for this set:

1, then 2 no error detected
2, then 1 X-ray protection
2, then 2 short protection
2, then 3 deflection circuit problem
2, then 4 vertical deflection problem

2, then 2 is the most common and easiest to fix.

Let me know what you find and if 2,2 I have detailed instructions for repairing that kind of trouble.

I am here to help people.

- 2-1 can be almost anything in the set causing low or high voltage in the picture tubes etc.

almost anything---someone is going to have to troubleshoot it---not likely to get fixed in the home.
