RIM BlackBerry Pearl 8100

I bought an Audiovox 6700 off Ebay used with no manual - the screen is black even when plugged in to the charger. All I have is a red button in the upper right of the phone blinking. What do I need to do?
I have the same problem
I know someone who can solve this problem

IF YOU HOLD DOWN THE POWER BUTTON ON TOP FOR A FEW SECONDS, IT WILL TURN THE BACKLIGHT ON AND OFF.
