Question about Pioneer (dvr-a06u) DVD±RW Burner

1 Answer

Jumper I'm not sure what a jumper is, or how it looks like, or how it's supposed to be connected. "My system currently has a hard drive and cd-rw connected to the single IDE connector on my motherboard. How do I connect a DVD writer as well when I only have the one IDE connector????" Solution #2 by Putty: "With only one ide connector you can only have 2 devices a master and slave, you cannot put a HD on a floppy connector...its only for floppy drives. I suggest you remove the cdrw and replace it with the dvdrw as it should be able to burn cd's as well....make sure the jumper on the dvd is set for what ever position you put it on....sugggestion is DVD master HD slave"

Cant get burner to reconised on pc

Since this is an IDE drive, please check the Master/Slave/Cable Select jumpers, if you've connected the drive in the same cable of your hard drive, you should check its jumper settings, if hard drive is set as Master, the DVD writer it should be as Slave, if the hard disk jumper is set to Cable Select (CS), the DVD should be in the same way too. After this check if DVD drive is identified correctly in BIOS, it's a good idea to set drive detection as Auto, if this all is OK, check its driver in Windows, it must be appear as a DVD-RW drive.

I installed a LiteOn SOHR-5239v cd-rw drive. It doesn't show up on my computer and i looked on the website and couldn't find the driver.

Ok thats probably your problem. J
You will have to remove the DVD drive once it is removed look at the back it will look like this,
I have indicated where the jumpers are located. The jumpers tell the computer how to read the drive (every IDE drive hard drive, cd/dvd rom, floppy drive has them) the options are Master (meaning it is the main drive), Slave (secondary drive), and Cable Select (the cable decides how the drive will be read).
There are two ways to connect the drive to the motherboard one is to split the IDE Cable with the hard drive the other is the drive has its own IDE Cable and plugs in next to the hard drive.
If you are sharing the cable with the hard drive configure the jumper as Cable Select,
If your drive connects with its own cable select Master.
To do this pull out the jumper and insert it in the location you want.

I/O Magic drive is really Toshiba SH-S182 - I need jumper help

The jumper settings are located in the manual. You can download it here (it takes a few minutes to download). I have tested it and it does work and has the jumper settings for you.

I would be most grateful if you would rate my answer for me. Thank you.

Samsung SH-S182 DVD±RW Dual

If the drive is "Master" (the first drive in cable line installed) then the jumper goes to "MA", if it is a "SLAVE" connected drive then the jumper goes to "SL".

Install to computer problem

Sounds like a case of jumper settings. If the CD-RW was installed as secondary IDE to an existing hard drive which is the Master, pls set jumper to SL. They are located at the rear of the CD unit between the IDE connector and the audio out.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.

I have a problem

Take the cover of your computer off again and check all the cables again. Check the cables going to the hard drive. Make sure there is no disk in the drive. If you have a floppy disk drive, make sure there is no disk in it. Make sure the jumper is set properly on the back of the cd-rom drive. The jumper should set to 'slave' or 'cd'. In some cases the jumper should be off. Let me know if this helps.
