Not necessary ...to unlock the device get the network unlock code from service provider, call them and tell them you want to unlock your phone because you are going overseas if they ask, but they won't and they will unlock it for you. They will send you the code to do it. here is the way you can unlock the 8800, which I used for my phone. Just get the code from service provider 1. Press the Menu key 2. Scroll to and select Manage Connections. Select Turn All Connections Off. 3. Press the red end key or the Escape key to go back to the Home screen. 4. Scroll to and select the Options icon. 5. Scroll to and select Advanced Options. 6. Scroll to and select SIM Card. 7. Type MEPD Note: When typing in MEPD the letters will not appear on the screen. This step opens up the personalization on the device. 8. Type MEP then hold ?ALT? key and type number 2. Note: When typing in MEP ATL 2 the letters/number will not appear on the screen, this step open up the ?Enter Network MEP? box. 9. Enter the unlock code. 10. Press the trackball (?Code Accepted should display) 11. Press and hold the red End key to turn the hand held off and then back on. 12. Once the device has powered on, follow steps 1 & 2 and restore connections.

iii) The SIM port might have been damaged in your cell phone. Insert any other active GSM SIM card to the cell phone and check whether it works fine with it.

New sim card and new phone. But nothing works. Is there anything regarding unlock

First ensure through your network provider that the new SIM card has been activated. If not wait for the activation to complete. Everything will be fine.
If the activation has been completed and still if it doesn't work, Insert your SIM card into any other active mobile phone and check whether it works with it. If it doesn't work there is some problem with your SIM card. Contact the seller where you bought your SIM card. If it works fine with the other phone, then there must be some problem with your new phone's SIM port.
Try inserting any other active SIM card to your phone and check whether the SIM port of your mobile phone is fine.
Also make sure that the new phone is free from network restriction or locked to same network of your new SIM card. If it has been locked to some other network, you need to unlock your device.
To unlock a mobile phone from network restriction, you need to enter it's unique unlock code. You can get an unlock code from the respective network provider or from any private service. For example, If you have a Blackberry phone, You can visit UnBBLock.Com to get the unlock code. If you have any other model phone, visit http://www.mobile-unlocker.com/ to get the unlock code at affordable cost with easy unlocking guide. Good luck.

Sim card not warking

Have you rung your service provider and activated your sim card? It is important to have the phone turned off while doing this. If you haven't changed your number, turn the old phone off too (just in case), and ring them to activate your new sim. You have not posted whether you are using your old or new sim, but judging by the other people with the same problem, this sounds like the case. They will want the serial number off the back of the sim card to do this.

Hi! My son dropped his BB 8800 in water. We put it in a bag of rice for 24 hrs to dry out. The phone turns on, and we can use all of the controls. When we insert his new sim card (from an ATT store,...

When you place a new or a existing SIM card from another phone provider into your mobile phone and it asks for a Security code then :-
This phone is locked to the original mobile phone provider. You need to contact this mobile provider to ask for the unlock code (security code) for this phone. You need to provide proof of ownership etc and the phone's unique IMEI number which is located inside the phone under the battery. They use this number to generate the unlock code for your phone.
They should provide you with instructions on how to enter this code into the phone.
Once you unlock the phone, then you can insert a new SIM card in this phone or sign up with another phone provider using this phone.

You could ring the phone provider and ask for the unlock security code because you are going overseas and wish to use your phone with a prepaid SIM card from another country. This maybe a free service.
The other way to get your phone unlock is to use a phone unlocking company on the Internet, they usually charge a couple of Dollars for their services. Use Google and search for "Security unlocking code” for phone unlocking companies in your area.

BlackBerry Storm -Sim card not accepted by the mobile

This is because many Blackberry Storms included the Vodaphone SIM card for when you are traveling abroad. Since you do not need it for using the phone in the US, and the SIM has not been activated for international use, you can remove it. The error message will not hinder the performance of the storm, but the message is rather annoying. It is located in the battery compartment, just below the battery and to the left of the memory card slot. You will need to remove the battery in order to remove the SIM card. Keep it in a safe place in case you ever need to activate the phone for international use.
