Based on what you described I would say your TV has the "shrinking and expanding" fault. Its a common problem on that model and the symptoms can range from the video shrinking and expanding or no video or no audio....You can read more about this fix on the site www.TvRepairKits.com

At first the tv picture would shrink then get back larger. Now the power green light is on, but the screen is black.

I had the same problem. After doing some research here I went to www.tvrepairkits.com and I ordered this kit: (TV-KIT-001-9P6031C103) Philips Magnavox 9P6031C103 Shrinking & Expanding Video Or No Video Kit. It costs about $53.00 plus about $12.00 freight.
According to the research and discussions this should fix the problem.

New flat screen hdtv has a fuzzy picture

Yes you will get a better picture quality out of a cable box if you get an HD cable box.
The reason you are getting the diminished picture is due to the signal you are feeding the TV is an analog signal. The newer HD TV's are made for digital TV and this older technology shows all its flaws on this type of TV.

When you get the new box understand that the same channels you are getting plugged directly into the tv are still going to have some grainy look to them but the good thing is that a lot of them are starting to be rebroadcast on HD channels and that is where your new toy will truly shine.

Enjoy your new TV...

Good Luck...

I just got cable and a new vizio tv.. the tv is fuzzy, i was told to use a HDMI 1 cable from the tv to the cable box. But the cable box doesn't have a place to hook the cable up

Are you sure you have a HD cable box? If it is it should have outputs for component video (Green/Blue/Red/White/Red) which can be attached to the TV and will still provide a very good picture.
If the cable box only has RCA outputs (Yellow/Red/White) then you do not have a HD cable box and in order to take full advantage of the capabilities of the new TV you should contact your cable provider and ask about getting a HD cable box.

Good luck....

Magnavox DV220MW won't record.

You need to plug a red, white, and yellow cord from the red, white, and yellow OUT of your cable or satellite box into the red, white, and yellow labelled VCR IN/LINE 1 on the Philips. To view what you are trying to record, make sure there is another red, white, and yellow cable plugged from the DVD/VCR OUT of the Philips to your television. Make sure the television is on the appropriate source channel (AUX 1, AUX 2, VIDEO 1, VIDEO 2, etc). Then press the VCR button on the Philips. You should now see your cable or sat channel (as long as it's not an HD Satellite box) on the television screen. Press record, and you are on your way. Good luck!

Magnavox MWR10D6 can't record from camcorder wrong channel

OK...try this...plug your RCA cables from your camcorder into the RCA input jacks on the back of the recorder. If you have a VCR, it can be plugged into the coax input on the back of the recorder. Use the coax output and plug it into a RF modulator (about $20 at Wal Mart). Plug the RCA output cables from the recorder into the RF modulator as well (Don't ask me why, but it seems to work on mine). Connect a coax cable from the RF modulator to the TV. Make sure the TV and Recorder are both on the right channel. The RF modulator will have a channel switch to use channel 3 or 4 on the TV. Make sure the recorder is set to E1 (Rear). You can check this with the channel +/- buttons on the bottom right of the remote. Good luck.
