If you are fairly sure that the power is reaching the clothes dryer, and the clothes drum is spinning, unplug the dryer first. Then using a continuity checker check the heating element. very often if the element needs replacing you will notice a break in the coil. Just like a light bulb, the heating element will eventually need to be replaced. The coil is the only source of heat, although it has components that operate it .
This is the most common locations for thermal fuses and heating element on Whirlpool,Kenmore,Estate dryers. Check these fuses for continuity and replace the one that does not have continuity
I'm assuming this is a dryer and if the dryer still stops when you open the door then the switch to stop the dryer and light the light is probably working so it sounds like the bulb burn't out.
Locate the bulb and remove it. It's probably only a couple of screws and a bulb that you push in and twist to remove. Inspect the bulb and if it looks bad call around for a replacement and remember to take the old bulb with you to verify the replacement is the same.
Hope this was helpful.
Good Luck!
My dryer did the same thing, all the lights worked on front, but the bulb was out inside. All I had to do was to replace the thermal fuse and replace the bulb if you want light. The bulb don't have to work in order to dry clothes
Light is located just above the door on the inside of the drum. It has a clear plastic lens on it. The lens has a hinge on the top and a retention feature on the bottom. You can see all of this with a mirror. Simply push the button up and the lens will swing up. You can then access the light bulb.
I had the same problem. I found out that the door switch (switch that is pushed in by the door when it closes to tell the machine that it can switch on ) had blown. It costs about $16 for a new one. You have to open up the casing but then you just unplug the old one and plug the new one right in. My light still doesn't work but I never really saw the point of it anyway.
