It may be that the top of the flash unit has been pushed down too firmly and has stuck under the lip on the front of the camera.
Loosen the 6 body screws - 3 one side, 2 the other and one underneath - ease back the top of the flash and it will spring into place.

SOURCE: Flash not discharging

its seems to me that the alignment of your flash setting in its cubicle has been disturbed, possibly by the camera being pressed in your bag. if you cant get it to operate normally, I suggest that you get it done professionally by Pentax.
The reason I am saying this, is cause firstly Pentax is good and branded camera. The settings and all teh mechanism's of this camera are very delicate and you will only damage something within it by forcing your flash out everytime you want to use it.

SOURCE: Canon XTi Built in Flash

I found the answer and fixed my flash. Look on http://photo.net/bboard/q-and-a-fetch-msg?msg_id=00ODWf

This will describe how, if you have been using a speedlite alot, than the little tab under the shutter release side of the hot shoe can get bent down thus constantly pressing down (toward the bottom of the camera) the small button which deactivates the pop-up1.gif flash even when the speedlite is not attached. Just bend the tab up a little with a jewler's screwdriver, turn the camera off and on and voila!! Fixed!!! Dan describes pushing the tab down, but on the xti, the tab needs to be bent up to release the flash deactivation switch and fix the problem. Thanks to Dan D on photonet for saving me a service call.

D90 dropped and caused a seal crack at front cover (cracked above lens mount). Build-in flash does not popup. It works well without flash. Do I have to replace the front cover? What should I do with...

The SB600 isn't made any more. I would recommend the SB700. Before you buy an external flash however, make sure that the hot shoe on you camera is still fully functional. An external flash is superior to the pop-up flash under almost any circumstances. Where your pop-up flash limits your shooting distance substantially, I have take pictures at night using an SB700 almost 100 feet from the subject and gotten correct exposure with my D90. Now there is one thing you will not be able to do without the pop-up flash, but I suspect it will never matter to you. You will not be able to use the pop-up flash to trigger the SB700 off camera.

Canon EOS 350D flashes error 05 and flash won't pop up

I had the same problem but found that manually popping the flash up about 10 or 12 times restored the auto pop-up function.

Hope that this helps

Flash will not pop up. Can you help?

If it releases but doesn't properly pop up then this may be the answer.

Mine did the same thing. The problem in mine after extensive disassembly was the plastic had broken inside the flash where the pop up spring attaches.

This was a pretty extensive repair with full disassembly in my case, not for most people.

A workaround is to take a small rubber band, loop it over the top of the camera from the eyepiece for the viewfinder to the lobe in front of the flash. When you need flash, release the flasy and unhook the elastic fromt he front lobe and let it go under the raised flash unit and it will keep it up. If you case lets you, you can leave it that way. Not pretty but functional.

How do i switch off flash in canon eos 400d? I do not want to use the flash but it pops up automatically in every mode.

Your camera has a built-in flash and it will pop up automatically in low light or backlit conditions if you are in Basic Zone.
All you have to do is push it back down.

If you set your camera option to P, only the shutter speed and aperture are set. You can then change settings for your flash and other functions.

Why won't the flash on my e500 pop up when the correct button is pressed or when I try to take a picture that requires a flash?

When you take pictures in AUTO, Portrait, Macro or Night scene mode, the built-in flash will automatically pop up in low-light or backlit conditions. If you want to control the flash pop-up, set this function to OFF.
1 Menu [AUTO POP UP]
2 Use control dial to select [ON] or [OFF].
3 Press the Ok
button.

If you are in any other mode the flash will not auto pop up.

Canon Powershot SD550 flash not working

most likely it could be stuck

you can try prying up the flash a bit not to much.

otherwise its broken, the gears that runs it, could have a broken tooth.

so it wont pop up or go up.
