Thanks, shaky120, but the Vaio 510 is an all in one and isn't anything like other laptops and desktops that I've worked on in the past. I did like that video where they used a pick, though; for sure that's one way of getting into a case!!

Thanks for that tip, mathgirl08. At least that gets me started. The reason I'm digging into this one is it was hit by lightning and I'm curious as to how much it's really damaged.

Following mathgirl08's suggestion I removed the top panel. There are 4 screws at the bottom - 1 one each side and 2 that are hidden under removal pads. At that point the back is fairly easy to remove.

3 screws hold in the hard drive casing. Once they are removed, you can flip the casing around and remove hte Cable and power. 4 screws hold the drive inside the casing

I bought the same computer used, and I had issues trying to find out how to open it. On the actual computer part (not the monitor) there is a button on the upper left on the side facing you. Push in that button and slide that top casing to the right while pulling up. The RAM slots are on the upper left. I haven't found an easy way to get to the hard drive, but if you find one . . . please share. Every site I found says "don't try to change the hard drive".

SOURCE: I have freestanding Series 8 dishwasher. Lately during the filling cycle water hammer is occurring. How can this be resolved

Hi,
A 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
Best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
The service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
Good luck!

I spilled OJ on my Sony PCV-W510G keyboard and now it doesn't work. The PC still works with mouse only input. Pressing any keyboard key does nothing. Can I take it apart to clean it or is it ruined?

1. if the mouse is still working and you can power up the pc normally then this means that the contacts in the keyboard are shorted due to the sugar from the OJ.
2. If you are not qualified to disassemble the keyboard on the PC. I recommend a new keyboard.
3. This is not usually not recommended but putting the keyboard in the dishwasher and letting it "air dry" usually will clean the keyboard if it is a USB or PS2.
hope this helps.

Will Sony sell you another PSU?

It's a laptop I'll bet they require you to get authorization and return for service. Do so.

Wont boot up

Could be bad memory, try and get into the bios and turn off the quick boot feature, this will run more complete tests. Also try booting using KNoppix or Ubuntu, make sure u set to boot from a CD in the BIOS. If Ubuntu or knoppix boot's you'll know it's the Hard disk, if they don't, it may be the RAM,
