Question about Koss KS2503 System

1 Answer

Koss KS2503 will not come on

My Koss KS2503 will not work. One day it just would not turn on. I opened the system and found a blown fuse. I replaced this fuse only to watch it blow again and again with yet another new fuse. I have disconnected the "ribbons" from the circuit board and put them back on only to find the same thing powering on. I called the company (1-800-USA-KOSS) and they said Koss electronics no longer has a phone number b/c they are going through some restructuring. Any help is MUCH appreciated!

You are better off buying a portable; u can get a magnovox DVD player for under $40 with DivX and connect it to the unit, and use it that way.

Suddenly blows fuse as soon as plugged in why?

Usually a fuse blowing immediately means there is a short in the amp somewhere.

Won't turn on

If the output module(s) has/have not failed (you need to know a bit to check this), then the power supply problem is probably traceable to a failed capacitor that caused the further failure of a switching transistor.
Locating this problem requires some electronic knowledge and at least a (digital) multimeter.

About the only thing you can do by eye is look for cans, normally mounted vertically on the board, mostly with the aluminum of the case visible at the top and shrink-wrapped sides that have values printed on them.
If you see any that have cracked tops or deposits on the board nearby, these may have caused the problem but the major component that is causing the fuse to blow is/are diodes or switching transistors on the AC side or shorted diodes on the DC side.

Because the failure might be related to bad capacitors, not having any way to check them pretty much precludes do-it-yourself repairs.

Replacing a blown fuse is sensible; replacing it twice is futile.

Koss 2503 blows fuses

You could be having problems with just that outlet  It might not be able to handle that much electricity.  Try the system on a different outlet.  If it still doesn't work, try the system on an outlet on a different fuse.  On an overloaded fuse something as simple as curling iron can blow a fuse.  If none of these work then it's probably a power supply issue.  If the power supply isn't grounding right, this could be causing the system to overload and blow a fuse.  The only way to fix this would be to replace the power supply; however, this might not be practical or possible.  I would suggest simply buying a new system, but if you're up to it go ahead and try to get a new power supply.
