Ice Dispenser problem on KitchenAid KSCS25INSS00 Refrigerator

The ice dispeser chute cover no longer retracts out of hte way to allow ice to fall down. A black plunger has fallen out of hte chute. Can't see how to get front cover plate over the ice dispenser off? How do I get to the ice dispenser chute to see the ice dispenser mechanism to repair/replace it?

    Thanks for the advice on where to find hte service manual. I took the ice/water dispenser assembly apart and discovered that the plastic hook holding onew side of the chute pin door flap had broken so the chute door was not moving out of the way to allow the ice to fall down. It does not appear that I can fix it wihtout breaking thermal insolation seals so I taped the ice door flap over the opening to thermally insollate the ice dispenser hole and closed it all up. I;'l take the ice out of the ice basket by hand now.

    Thanks

I have researched your model, and it looks like this is not a serviceable by user part. Please see the following link:

Hi DonaldG.

Are you sure it is something blocking the ice from falling?
You might want to check this, There is a troubleshoot section for ice problems, try to see if one of that solutions match your situation.

    If your sure there is somethign stuck in the way, it can be ice, try so unplug it, and get a small bar or a knife and carefully try to move the poition of the blocking ice/part so it will fall and clean the path,

    *Note do not stick your hand, there are powerfull Sharp knifes inside(to vut the ice cubes). So dont get your hand inside because that might result in an injury.

    Donald also note that relacing the whole door will not be cheap (you cant just replace something in the ice dispenser) So first try to fix it and check that nothing is blocking the way down.

Ice dispenser flap in door will not close and stays open causing the ice maker to frost up and the unit to run all the time

You will have to open the cover on the door. W D-40 is the best lube to use. Do NOT use W D-40 where it makes contact with the ice chute!

You may have an issue with one or more of the following:

* icemaker
* dispenser actuator
* ice chute door assembly
* ice dispenser solenoid (if the solenoid is stuck in an open position, the ice chute door/flap would remain open allowing cold air to escape).

Contact an appliance service company.

GE Profile 26.6 cu. ft. side by side is frosting in the shoot

Oddly enough, the problem is with your ice dispenser. What happens is that the door at the bottom of the ice chute is probably not sealed. This is likely because there is a solenoid that is supposed to hold that door open when you push your cup against the dispenser arm, and THEN, close it again when you release. If the chute door is not sealed, warmer, moist air from outside the refridgerator will be canstantly drawn up the chute where the moisture will freeze as frost. Gradually, this frost builds up in the chute until there is no longer enough room foir the ice to fall. You can usually look up at the chute from outside and see that the door is not sealed. In my case, I left it unsealed because the door would not open to let the ice out. It took me about 3 months to figure out that this was causing my frost-clogging problem. The solution is to replace the solenoid that is supposed to open and close the chuite door. If you remove the despenser panel, you will see that this solenoid is probably all rusted up and not working. The following link will allow you to enter you model number and see a diagram of the offending area. http://www.pcappliancerepair.com/model-display.php

First off is the water filter bad and or do you have one...if not and it is good...then you have pretty much diagnosed the problem correctly...as you said the old Ice maker gears turn and when they make a complete revolution they engage a trigger which signals the water solenoid to dispense water to the ice maker...another test is to fill the ice maker manually and see if it freezes (test the temp of the freezer...if it is not cold enough the ice maker will not work)...if ice is made (generally under 4 hours ) and it is not dumped...you need to replace the Ice maker...around $30 to $50depnding on brand and where you buy it...I shop Marcones Appliance parts the appliance repairman's friend...good quality cheap prices.

Good Luck I hope this helped...please rate me ...the Fang.

remove the bottom tray that you sit your glass on, push down on the bottom of the trim arround the despenser, lift outward then upward on the trim panel, have a piece of duct tape handy to tape the panel out of your way to gain access to the assembly

Bottom of ice maker/dispenser frosting over

Open the freezer door and look down the ice chute while you shine a flashlite up the dispenser cute from the outside. If you see light around the chute door, it needs to be replaced or something is wrong with the mechanism. The problem you describe is almost always air leakage around that flap.
Post back if you need more help.
