Question about Sony DAV-C700 System

1 Answer

Poor picture quality

I have had the DAV-C700 system for about 6 or 7 years. I have for a while now noticed diagonal lines running through the picture when I played a DVD. These lines are diagonal, straight (not wavey) and pixilated. I tried running a cleaner disk in it but that made no inprovement. I have checked all the cables. I get the same lines was using the colorstream connection, as well as the single RCA video cable. I have not tried the S-video connection yet. The same lines appear when I feed a DVD signal from another player into an auxillary vidoe jack and sent it out through the Sony.

I have a similar problem with a DAV-C700 purchased in 1999. Diagonal/vertical lines alternating red and green across the display. I am using the component video outputs. If aged electrolytic cap's in PS are the culprits, which ones need to be replaced. Specificity would be appreciated.

I have the same problem as bikerider428 with the DAV-C700. It gets extremely hot after running a short while.

A lot of "aged" problems relate to the power supply with this type of unit. If you are a handy chap and know what capacitors are you will find that finding and replacing the "dry" caps in the power supply will fix most problems including streaky pix and crackly audio.

How to assemble carson telescope

Look at the picture on this web site:
http://www.opticsplanet.net/carson-50mm-aim-telescope.html

Notice that the "diagonal" goes into the telescope first and then the eyepiece goes into the diagonal.

This is a very poor quality telescope with plastic focuser and even the eyepieces are plastic. Read my TIPS on my profile page. 50mm is exactly the same aperture as a pair of 10x50mm binoculars. For Astronomy the binoculars would have been more useful than this small telescope.

The DVD Upgrade is an advanced modification to your DVD player, which adds extra features and enables you to get more from your machine. The upgrade supplements the DVD player and in no way harms the playback quality or removes any performance features of the machine.

 Sony DAV-C700

Macrovision & CGMS disable

All DVD players have a system called Macrovision built in to the player, which is designed to stop the copying of DVD discs to video. However, this system can have adverse affects on some projectors. For this reason the DVD MOD Upgrade disables Macrovision to solve any problems.

Diagonal lines and ghost images

You may have a bad flyback transformer (high voltage trans former). The lines you're seeing are retrace lines caused by the picture tube screen set too high. This is often caused by the screen control opening up. This control is part of the flyback.
