Question about Canon imageRUNNER 5000 Copier

1 Answer

I have had a couple of service calls regarding copies printing of the top of the page. It only happens with 11x17 paper and on the 2nd side of the sheet. The last time a technician was here he replace a tiny motor in the duplexer unit. It worked OK for about a week, but now the problem is back.

Hello kaymatt. I would truly like to help you and I have some questions and ideas that may do that. But as I am sure you know troubleshooting a problem remotely can be tough. I am game for the fight! :-) AND..... if nothing else this can help you help your tech diagnose the problem! I will proceed on the fact that you say that the problem only occurs on 11x17. Is it consistent? Is every image produced on 11x17, 2nd side, off the page (mis-registered)? Is the amount of misregistration consistent? That is to say off by the same amount. The reason I ask is that your copier is a digital device and therefore scans the image and converts it to a a stream of data that can be manipulated any number off ways prior to being produced on the paper. It can be enlarged, reduced, both simultaneously, shifted, reversed all because for a moment in time the image resides in memory waiting to be reproduced as per a number of instructions that the customer or the technician can alter. There is a software setting that the tech can access that sets the alignment of the image to paper. There are adjustments for left to right,up and down, magnification and more. All of these software adjustments can be made independently for 1st side and 2nd side. In fact have to be from time to time. I am sorry to be so long winded, but I bet you see where I am headed. I truly hopes this offers some help. If nothing else you just got some free amusing factoids! :-) Good luck and let me know if this helps.

Hi there,

Have look where the paper feeds into the tray at the top.

Most likely there is a piece of rubbish stuck in there, another piece of paper or some fluff or something. Blow it out and give it another try.

If this doesnt work open the lid and have a look to the far left of the plate glass. you will notice a small plate glass seperate from the main plate running parallel with the main plate. Clean this with a damp cloth and some window cleaning detergent. Sometimes correction fluid gets wiped off onto this portion which acts as the Scanning Region for documents inserted on the top feeder. This causes a "permanent" black object being scanned for copying, hence the black stripe.

If the copies are coming out with a school fence type image on the copy, it sounds like the low voltage power supply is causing the problem.
One other area to know about is, the laser head might have very dirty mirrors. The mirrors get a film of dirty haze on them causing the copies to print out very faint.
The repair is very involved and complicated.
In order to clean them, the laser assay would need to be removed and opend up. Very delicute care need to be taken when preforming this task.
Another area is if the copies are coming out light, suspect the software version is not up todate. A serivce call might have to be made on it. The service person can update the software on the machine.
Good luck and be safe.

I have a new photosmart C4680 printer and I can only print one copy at a time from my computer. I want to print two or more copies at a time. What do I do to make this happen ?

Usually the number of copies of a certain print job is handled by the software.

Example: You have written a one page letter using WordPad. You would like the C4680 to print 2 copies of this letter:

1) On the menu, click "File"

2) Choose "Print..."

3) On the page that follows, change the number of copies to 2. There are other options you may choose at this time, if desired.

4) Click Print

The unit should start printing 2 copies of your letter.

I'm trying to print 11x17 from Illustrator and every time it would only print half of the 11x17. WHY? any help please?

May be you forgot the Page Setup. If it is: open, copy all (ctrl+A then ctrl+C), File|New, set page to 11x17, paste and re-position.
May be Print Setup is incorrectly configured. Check it by activate the Show Page Tilling option on the menu.

First make sure you are not using "fit to page" as this feature does not work for legal size documents. To fix this problem we need to check several things. First, Press Copy, Load your document, press 1 for number of copies, press the up/down arrow until you get to "paper size" then choose legal (for 11x17). Press OK
It is also possible that your machine is set to reduce/enlarge size to less/more than 100%. If the first solution did not work start over, press copy, load document, enter 1 for number of copies, press up/down arrow to choose "enlarge/reduce" then use right/left arrows to choose 100% (again, do not choose 'fit to page') press OK. Once you have done this, you can set these as default if you like. Press Copy, press up/down arrow to choose new setting, press OK, press 1 to choose YES, press stop/exit.

How do i make double sided copies for my HP 2840

When you call up your printer (usually [Ctl][P]) tell it to print even numbered pages only, but in reverse order, This means the last page to be printed will be page 2, and it will be face down on the top of the pile (blank side showing) Take the printed sheets and rotate them so the top (head) of the sheet is feeding back into the machine, with the blank sides up. Now call your print up again and tell it to print the odd pages only. The first sheet to be printed will be page 1 which will print on the blank side of page 2, and all the rest will follow in sequence, with the correct sides up. Works every time. The print control is part of the Windows system, so your application should provide the full functionality.
