Question about IBM NetVista PC Desktop

1 Answer

PC Card I found out the hard way that the standard pc card didn't fit the Dell Optiplex minitowers and with the IBM NetVista being a smaller compact processor, I was curious if it took normal size PC Cards. I have a D-link network adapter/antenna card for your standard size PC Slot and wanted to know if it would be compatible to the IBM NetVista. Thanks!

There is a bunch of "model" numbers for the IBM netvista PC. You didn't menton yours in your question but after looking at a dozen or so I'll bet you have at least one PCI slot free for a wireless PCI card.

I have dell optiplex 755. Does my system support ati radeon 3650?. Also recommend me any else card which is suitable for my computer

what model is this small form factor ? mini tower?anyhow, here are the things that you may consider .
if its a small form factor unit then you may need to get a video card that is Low Profile
and also consider the power supply :
The ATI Radeon HD 4650 512MB Low Profile PCIe x16 graphics card should work fine with the 275w PSU.
Max power draw is 48 watts

Will ATI Radeon x1900 run on my Dell Optiplex 755?

Looking at the specifications for the Optiplex 755 line I'm seeing the highest power supply is in the minitower version at 305W. I can't find a document specifying the power requirements for the Radeon x1900, but most benchmark power consumption tests show the system pulls around 280 - 300W with that card installed.
The problem is either your specific Optiplex 755 configuration can't support the power requirements, I don't know if you have the MiniTower, Desktop Tower, Small Form Factor or Ultra Small Form Factor version of the sytem or the card is itself is bad.

My dell optiplex doesn't boot... but i can hear the sound (not beeping) and the spinning hard disk. Nothing is in the screen. I tried removing and exchanging RAM but didn't work.

Hello,

The possible causes that can cause a PC not to boot are:

  1. Defective RAM
  2. Defective Video Card
  3. Defective HDD
  4. BIOS battery
For the RAM and for the video card, check if they are well clipped on the motherboard. Try removing and replacing them.

As for the HDD, check the SATA/IDE cables.

If all the steps above seems to be ok, try changing the BIOS battery found on your motherboard.(Note this will reset your BIOS settings).

Hope this helps you !!

What model 2 or 3 Port FireWire PCI card (low profile) Adapter?

I could not find any product that would fit a SFF case. The best suggestion i have for you is to get the riser card adapter that will fit standard PCI cards in the Dell Optiplex 7xx models. here is the link and partial discription.

The Dual Full Height Riser from Dell™ enables you to fit two PCI card in its slots. This product has been tested and validated on Dell systems and is supported by Dell Technical Support when used with a Dell.
