I did 2 full backups at different times on a usb

I did 2 full backups at different times on a usb hard drive. When I tried to do a full restore, the program only showed the initial backup as a choice. The ones I made were not shown. The hard drive was connected. I killed the program and tried again. This time it showed the initial backup and the second one that I made. The first one I made was not in the list. I selected the second backup and hit the next button, but nothing happened. I waited a long time, but no progress. I went back to the previous choice list and it only showed the initial backup with no other choices. I tried rebooting, but it now only shows the initaial backup as the only choice. What gives? How can the backup I created get used?
