Keyboard does not slide in fully

I have I-mate Jasjam with a Qwerty keyboard sliding out. The trouble it refuses to slide in fully so there is always about 1cm gap. It seems to discharge the battery in a matter of hours (I have a new battery because I thought that was it). I suspect it thinks it is on all the time since it does not click closed. I can't see the slide pegs or anything mechanical causing the obstuction.
