"shadow" print on letterhead and envelopes

Our HL2040 is printing the address twice on envelopes. It prints normally, and in the right location, and then it prints a fainter shadow of the text also. This shadow text is offset quite a bit below the original text. Envelopes tend to jam the machine as well. Any ideas?

Thanks for the advice, I forgot to mention that the printer is new so hopefully these things aren't bad already. Any other thoughts?

I didn't see the solution but I'm having the same problem - terrible when you can't print envelopes - Help!

The drum is not the problem, as the drum has better than 70% of its life left. There is no problem with the return address, only the delivery address. Maybe this is why the printers were on sale. We have 5 of these printers and they all have this problem.

I too am getting the shadow on envelopes. Printer is brand new - less than 300 pages printed. Have not found a solution to it.

Regular pages print perfectly but recently the address on the envelope shows up correctly and again perfectly but lighter about 3" or so to the left of the main address. This happens with two different programs - Microsoft Word 2007 and WordPerfect 12.

SIMPLE !! The "shadowing" you talk about is due to cables in back of your computer, touching or too close together. I had this happen to mine. I moved the cables apart, and no more shadows !! Sounds too easy, but it works. Takes a few seconds. Immediate results.

Sounds like it is time to replace the Drum. As for Jamming, the pick-up and feed rollers might need to be replaced.

Go to printer properties ----- printing preferences ----- media type --- choose thick paper. Envelopes normally with thicker size of paper.

How to write a letterhead to apply for an internship?

Normally a letterhead is a professionally printed blank sheet of paper with your name/address/logo/etc. pre-printed on the top. You could design your own letterhead using a word processing program to print as a header on your application letter. It seems pretty unusual to require a letterhead, especially for an internship. Perhaps they mean a letterhead from your university?

LEXMARK X1240 WON'T PRINT ENVELOPES

I was so pissed off that so many on the web had this same problem that I spent many hours trying to get it to work. I am sure that this is not how it is designed to work but my envelopes got printed.First I went under File, Print, Properties to Page Set-up for envelope #10. I also ********** print colour images in black and white which someone else had suggested- although it might not be necessary. I selected quick print but normal should probably work too. I then closed out these two windows. Then under tools, I selected Letters and Mailing, then envelopes and labels, typed in the addresses, went under options and changed the feed from automatic to default tray, which automatically changes the feed method to the 4th one out of 6 which wasn't what I wanted but ignore it. Check off face up. Putting the envelope into the printer was bizarre- it has to be inserted very far into the printer until only 2-3 inches of the envelope stick above the horizontal surface of the printer. It must be inserted into the middle of the paper holder, until it is just 2-3 inches sticking up, and then slide it all the way over to the right where the printer indicates the envelope should be- nice and straight against the right margin. Do not use the movable paper holders that they suggest you swing over to the right to hold your envelope- or printing won't occur for some odd reason. Press O.K. on envelopes and labels and then press print. Good luck- it worked for me.

My HP 1350 will not print cards/envelopes from the right side of the printer. They have to be loaded on the right but the printer keeps printing in the center.

Printing envelopes with an HP 1350:
If you use MS Word, select ENVELOPES. When address window appears, select OPTIONS on right > select PRINTING OPTIONS > select FEED METHOD option on far right (envelope placed on right of tray face down); select FACE DOWN; select FEED FROM UPPER TRAY. The only problem I have with this is that the address prints off in the lower quarter of the envelope rather than in the center of the envelope as we would write it manually. I am currently working on solving that problem.
