If you have a Firewire port in your computer, then it is better to go for an external hard disk with a Firewire interface. Otherwise, a USB external hard disk will do the job.

I have an old MaxtorD740-6L 40gb AT disk drive which I want to fit into my new computer. I am unsure as to which pins to fix the jumper to. There are four pairs of pins and at the moment the jumper is in the 3rd pair from the power plug. There are no diagrams or markings on the drive. Thanks Andy
