My Belkin N1 router can't seem to establish

My Belkin N1 router can't seem to establish connection with the cable modem - the router light flashes and connects but as the internet light flashes it loses the router light again. It is still allowing full internet signal, though this does occassionally drop. I've tried resetting the router and i've checked with the cable company and the modem is working fine

the modem is working fine. the connection might be dropping from the router side.
You can try to upgrade the Firmware of the router.
reduce the MTU on the router. If it is on 1500 the reduce it to 1400.
