Do you have a traffic receiver? if no,you need to purchase one but if yes;
Ensure you are using the right cable and it is properly plugged in
Ensure that you are in a traffic coverage area when accessing traffic
Check to see that the service isn't disabled on your device
Update the traffic receiver software on your using GARMIN EXPRESS
Yes! The GTM-20 is a charger with a built-in traffic receiver. The charger plugs into the cradle for the Nuvi 660 and then the Nuvi 660 snaps into the cradle.
However to receive traffic with the GTM-20, you will need to purchase a subscription, either yearly or lifetime. The traffic receiver receives traffic information from FM radio broadcast stations, which broadcast traffic data.
If the GTM-20 Traffic Receiver is functioning, you should see a blue diamond on the main screen and you should be able to find a traffic icon in the menu.
If the diamond is grayed out, then the traffic receiver hasnt locked yet. If the traffic symbol is completely missing, then yes it could be a problem with the traffic receiver or the cradle or plug that plugs into the cradle.
The Nuvi 6xx receives traffic information from the GTM-20 receiver through the plug that plugs into the cradle.
The traffic mode of this device comes up as a radio station that tell you how the traffic in some areas are. The traffic receiver is integrated in the vehicles power cable. You will need some components to set it up. You will need
mini USB connector,
External antenna connector,
Vehicle power adapter.
Once you connect these components together, your gps will be able to receive information on traffic.
Then you connect it to your gps device, once there is traffic anywhere around your area, the gps receives an information. A traffic icon appears on the upper left corner of the map page. The traffic icon changes color to indicate the severity of traffic conditions on your route or the road you are currently driving on.
This is from Garmin's website, www.garmin.com, regarding the Nuvi 1490T. If you haven't already done so, you might want to check and make sure you are in an area that does receive traffic coverage.
¹Lifetime traffic extends for the useful life of your Garmin traffic receiver (as long as you own a compatible Garmin GPS) or as long as Garmin receives traffic data from its traffic supplier, whichever is shorter. Traffic content not available for all areas. See www.navteq.com/rdstraffic for traffic coverage areas and www.garmin.com/traffic/fm/navteq.html for program License Agreement containing complete terms and conditions.
