Just got my 52inch Sharp lcd screen yesterday. Almost every time the screen goes black (at the end of a scene, or in between movie trailers) and then comes back to another scene, the screen starts flashing black.

I own a new Sharp Aquos LC42D64U LCD flat panel TV. This is a 1080p TV.

Randomly, on some high-definition channels (1080i), there will be a thin white horizontal dotted line (parts of it flashing on and off) at the very top of the image (just a few pixels high).

This can happen on full-screen high-def broadcasts, or high-def broadcasts that have black borders on left and right.

I can 'resolve this' by changing the 'View Mode' to 'Stretch' with the TV remote. This makes the image slightly larger, thereby sending the dotted line outside the image borders.

Anyone know if this is normal for LCD flat-panel TV's?

Had the same problem when I first got this TV (42" Sharp Aquos 64U) just before Xmas 2007. Retail store suggested electrical interference was the problem, so I purchased a high-end shielded cable to go from set-top box to TV. This fixed the problem, but now, mid-February, the problem has returned. It does not happen on all channels, and sometimes, when the show I'm watching goes to an HD commercial, the black and white line at the top of the screen disappears, only to return when the show returns. Any ideas? Could it be the way the show is being transmitted?

I have the same exact TV, and have the same problem but, not always just when the black bars are on the sides of the screen. I know what that is. Most of the time when my flashing white and black line across the top is there, its when I'm on a non-HD channel,, or,, on a HD channel that is broadcasting a non-HD program.

I just bought a 50" panasonic 1080P .when Im on a HD channel and it breaks into a commercial or if the program wasnt shot in HD ,I have the same white and black kind of morse code on the top of the screen. I spoke to someone at 6ave electronics and he called it a informational banner and it was normal. he said every broadcast has one but you dont normally see it because it extends over the picture. He said theres nothing you can do about it,

Thin white dashes on top of screen is PERFECTLY NORMAL. It is nothing wrong with the TV, it is the broadcast. What you are seeing is the very bottom of the timecode running. It doesn't happen all of the time or all channels. It usually happens with old 4:3 commercials predating "Digital TV." This is mentioned in your Users Manual. You should be able to adjust the horizontal/vertical position in the menu settings.

It should be in warranty. Either get exchanged by vendor or get fixed by droping to a warranty depot shop.

Horizontal white lines 27A43.

You have some bad capacitors. They are located very near and next to your vertical IC. I would guess you would have to replace maybe four of these! Thanks for asking!

Why do we have black bars on top and bottom of screen

Originally when 16:9 TVs were produced movies were being shot in 16:9 so that you had a full screen. Now they are being shot in 14:9 as it gives you a more cinematic experience. This is due to the fact that colours look more vibrant when they are placed against a colourless/lightless surface (such as a black panel) as for the bars on the side of the screen LuciferStarr is correct; it depends on the format in which the video was originally produced. For example most older television shows are still shown in 4:3 but newer shows and movies are produced in the widescreen format.

Permanent horizontal line approx. 4" from top of screen

if this line is in the picture, that is possible burn in screen. if you have a black bar at the top or faint white lines that come down from top this is caused by defective filters in vertical circuit or bad vertical output. mch

TV Bars

These are called vertical retrace lines. They are going to get worse untill you find the bad capacitor(s) or replace the vertical driver/output IC. Please, if you have not the solid state repair experience, get a pro to assist you in this repair as there are no user replaceable parts inside this set. Good Luck PLease do not forget to rate this thread.
