Question about Philips 64PH9905 64 in. Rear Projection Television

1 Answer

Lost video but audio still present

I just lost my video on all sources. There was no incremental degradation leading up to this, just went black. I have not made any recent changes or moved the TV in 2 years. Last change was to connect an HD satellite receiver to the component input. Thanks for any feedback. Also, any lead on a reliable repair option in the SF Bay Area would be appreciated.

Trying to connect my Aiwa VIDEOplus video player to tv to sort out old video tapes. Lost the manual re what goes where.

Video cassette players usually have three output leads: right audio (R), left audio (W), and video (Y). These connect to corresponding inputs on the rear of the TV. You will have to select the appropriate input source using the remote to be able to see what's playing.

About This Video

This video covers the electronic troubleshooting for a complaint of No Resistance on the Stairmaster Stepmill 916. Tools Needed: Multi Meter, Assistant for Testing Purposes
It is necessary to begin by removing the user's right side cover to gain access to lower control board and alternator for testing purposes.
  • Using your multi meter on the volts setting, you will place your black meter lead to the Ground test point on the lower board and place your red meter lead into the back of the cable connector where the brown wire is located. Have your assistant step onto the steps. Voltage should be present. If no voltage is present, check all cables. If cables check out, the console should be replaced. If voltage was present, it is time to move to the next test point.
  • Place your black meter lead to the Ground test point and the red meter lead to the Tach test point. Have your assistant step onto the steps. Voltage should be present. If no voltage is present, the alternator brushes should be replaced. If voltage was present, it is time to move to the next test point.
  • Next component to test for a no resistance issue is the load resistor. You will be testing for .5 -.7 ohms. Place the red meter lead to the white wire connected to the load resistor and the black meter lead to the black wire. If the proper value is not found when the load resistor is tested, it should be replaced.
You have now tested the entire electrical circuit. If the problem still exists, you have a mechanical failure or you should verify the results of your testing.

Lost 50 in.tv audio

Check audio connections if it is an external source and also check other input sources like a DVD player to see if the audio comes from that. If you never get any audio it could be a power supply issue or a amplifier that has broken solder joints on the board. I have had to repair many wave soldered boards over the last 40 years due to little solder on the component leads and then some parts that handle power or get hot develop what is called a thermal break in the soldering that connects the component lead. If it is not a bad setting or cable into the display device then you might need to consult a Technician.

I have a marantz sr3001 and the sounds and image is good but the picture is in black and white. How do I get color?

If you're using component cables I would suspect one is not connected or working. Isolate by swapping them around. OR bypass the whole receiver. What does it really do for external source video anyway besides offer opportunities for cable issues and degradation?

I always run my video directly to my TV.

How do I connect the digital output from apple tv to my nakamuchi soundspace 21

Have you referred to the manuals?

Consider this: Is the TV a SOURCE for audio (tuning stations from an antenna) or is it simply passing audio through from elsewhere (Cable/SAT Box?

If the former, you WILL need to route its audio output to the Nak or be limited to TV-sound (yuk). Not knowing the model of the TV, I can't speak to that.

If the latter, why?

My recommended policy is to NEVER run audio or video anywhere it does not need to go; or at least run it to the BEST electronics FIRST. Digital Audio to audio gear, Hi-Def video to the TV. Interim cabling and hookups introduce opportunities for degradation, plus they can get expensive.

I treat my TV like a monitor. The BEST video from every source I have goes straight to it. Basic stereo audio from each source, too.

The BEST digital video from each of those sources goes to my receiver. NO VIDEO.

It requires me to do some switching of sources at the TV and the hi-fi but there are NO anomalies in the sound or the video this way.

Fixya has thousands of questions related to garbled audio or video routed through AV receivers unnecessarily.

Not mine.

Radio works just have no digital read out on 1999 explorer. Is it fused related?

Hello! Yes It could be fuse related. You have lost power on the Blue/Red lead, which is illumination to the radio.

If you have a multimeter you can look for +12volts on this wire with the key on. If it is not present; Check fuse #27 15amp inside drivers side fuse box.

In case you ever need the entire wiring; Here it is...

Green/Yellow memory +12volts with key off

Yellow/Black ignition +12volts with key on

Red Ground

Blue/Red +12volts with key on

SPEAKERS

FR + White
FR - Green/Orange
FL + Orange/Green
FL - Light Blue/White
RR + Orange/Red
RR - Black/White
RL + Pink/Green

Video blacking out...

Changing all the caps is not the right approach to problem solving.Works cold, but fails after hot is a thermal issue. After set warms up and fails, use cool freeze spray on suspect components to isolate.Determine whether CRT filaments are lit and/or if HV is present. Also, inspect jumper wire from transformer to HV block-if corroded, replace jumper HV lead & HV block w/Mits. parts.
