Thanks for the response. I installed the audio cable but still no sound. Any other suggestions?? Checked the device manager and it tells me that the dvd is functioning properly.

- DVD burner is new, just installed. Speakers are powered and operate normally. Had already checked volume on computer and it's on, not muted and lastly, just put in the analog audio cable last night as instructed earlier. The dvd will play a music cd but only get video and no audio from a dvd movie. I did install the disc that came with the dvd. I can try it again... thanks for the input!!Best Solution

First guess, ensure the speakers are powered, double check all connections. Ensure that all audio drivers are installed in the device manager, or try installing the drivers for audio from Dell's website. You can search via your Dell service tag to provide drivers for your PC.
Ensure the volume control for Windows is turned up and not muted, and ensure the volume on the speakers.
Are you trying to play an audio CD from the DVD drive? If so, it may require a 4 pin analog cd audio cable which goes from the DVD drive to the sound card.
