The DVD player spins for a while, then it gets a C104 "Incorrect Disk Error" on any disk.

Hi,

Does it immediately say incorrect disc or does it spin for a while before the error message?

I am sorry but it looks like the that your unit needs to be serviced (probably the lens has malfunctioned).

Get some estimates from local electronics repair shops....

if you decide it isn't worth it to fix it.... as a last resort.... hit the top of the player (above where the disc tray is) a few times with your hand and check to see if it fixes it, then try it again a few times. When i did that my XBOX 360 was able to read discs again. (of course you may damage it more... but if you are throwing it out anyway... it is worth a shot)

Since the VRDVD4005 can output a signal, you could always buy a used video card for your pc that can accept the input, then get a dvd burner and do it that way... however that is a lot more complicated than the 1-click ease of the VRDVD4005

You need to open this device up, this voids your warranty. If you have a warranty just use it. Otherwise, remove all outside screws from the large metal cover that covers the top and left and right sides, it is also connected at the back.

When the cover is removed. Remove anything covering the cd tray and lens from sight. Inspect the area. And operate the system while the cover is off. Dont touch anything, just inspect as it move, you migh notice something odd. Manually clean the lens with high grade rubbing alcohol. This should allow the lens to see properly. Be sure it is clear of any smudge, streaks, or debris. Test the unit. Usually it will read if something serious hasnt gone wrong. Otherwise replace the unit.

It doesn't need to read disc cleaner, so you can let it keep on running even while it isn't recognizing the disk. Did you try simply plugging it out for 30 minutes and then plugging it back in?

By the way, the problem is most likely a hardware problem with the disk drive inside the DVD recorder, so if it's still under warranty you should send it in for repair. If not, you can open it up and see whether something got disconnected (and clean the laser eye yourself, be very careful, use a Q-tip and some rubbing alcohol). Somebody who had the same error as you found the motor detached from body.

    Hi,

I'm not sure why I got a thanks for trying rating. The solution I gave you was the same as the ones you received after mine. That is, the problem is a hardware problem and that you need to open the unit and try to fix it (if you're knowledgeable enough) or bring it in for repair otherwise.

Probably the only thing you can do is get a cd/dvd lens cleaning kit and try cleaning the lens.

If that doesn't work, your dvd player probably needs replaced.

I think you need to take it to the service center, because there's nothing that you can do all by your self. The problems starts from the optical lens/ laser pick up, replacing the lens could be necessary.

Cannot format a dvd-rw disc or record to the disc.

Unless you posted this question in the wrong category, you can't use the Sansui VRDVD4000 to record to DVD. It is a DVD player only, not a DVD burner. It will play and record VHS tapes, but with DVDs it will only play them.

To record to a DVD, you would need a DVD burner. Many modern computers include a DVD burner, so maybe either your computer or someone you know's computer has a DVD burner.

Solutions to incorrect disk error c105 & c104

Hello gjbrokke,

First make sure the disc is compatible with the dvd player (CD-R+ , or CD-R - )

Second make sure the region code of the dvd you burned is compatible with the dvd region settings on your dvd player.

One of those two are preventing the disc from playing in your sansui player.

MRV700VR

EXT1 is not an error - that message means that the dvd player is on input "EXT1" - so it is trying to display whatever is connected to EXT1 in the back of your DVD player, whether it is a cable/sat box, another vhs player, etc. The message may be getting displayed for a number of reasons - but, if you put in an incompatilbe/unfinalized disc type, and it is not able to play that disc, it may default to EXT1 b/c it is searching for some type of usable signal.

The MRV700VR is only compatible with certain discs types - and the disc types that you are trying to insert must also be finalized discs. I would reccomend only using the compatible disc types listed in your user's manual - some of them are getting harder-to-find. 16x discs are very iffy with this machine. 8x discs are best.

I have the full user's manual, so I can give you any more details that you request.

Won't play DVDs or CDs at all. Reads error code C-104.

4)This folder is the DVD/CD-ROM Drive Class Description in the registry.Look for any of the following names in the right hand column.
  • UpperFilters
  • LowerFilters
  • UpperFilters.bak
  • LowerFilters.bak
5) If any of the above keys shown in step 4 are listed, right-click on them and choose Delete

Try cleaning the optics with one of those DVD cleaners.
When that probably doesn't work, you can hand clean the optics if you can figure out how to get at them. (easy on some, hard on others) If that doesn't work, it is prbably not worth going any farther
