What cable do I need connect my Emerson EWL20D6 to my laptop?

This TV can't understand a laptop signal directly (for most laptops - there are some computers that have a TV out option). The EWL20D6 has S-video, component and composite video inputs. Your best picture will be to get a VGA (RGB) to Component Video (YPbPr) converter with a 3.5 mm to RCA L/R audio cable. See this page for some idea of the available converters: . The VGA to component video cable is meant for projectors that can interpret the RGB signal, not TVs.

If your laptop has an HDMI port, you will need a different type of converter.

Once you have the correct hardware, you will need to make sure that the external video port is active on your laptop. For some machines, you may need to enable this in the BIOS first (press Esc, F1, F2 or F10 (depending on the computer) on bootup to get to the BIOS - it may take a few tries to time it correctly). Then turn off the TV and computer before connecting the cables. Then turn on the TV and set it to the desired input before turning on the laptop. Then set the laptop to send the video signal to the external monitor. (On my Win7 laptop, I right-click on the Desktop and select Graphic Properties. Then set the desired display (laptop screen, external monitor, both) and click Apply. Then press OK when you see the confirmation box on the now active screen.)

The Emerson EWL20D6 was manufactured by Funai for the Emerson line. Thus the manual is available here: . Manuals are listed in alphabetical order. (If you use the search function, leave off the brand name.) The direct link to the manual is: .

I hope this helps.

Can't figure out how to connect pc to video component to my Acer laptop

You shouldn't be using video component cables, instead you should be using a VGA cable and a 1/8". stereo audio cable. Your laptop and your TV should have a VGA port; it is D-shaped and has 15 pins over 3 rows. Next to your TV's VGA port should be an audio jack that you can hook up to your laptop's headphone jack. The cables be be bought at Radio Shack or any decent electronics/computer store.

I have an ACER Aspire laptop that i would like to connect to my Samsung Series 5 500 tv but in the manual it only explains how to connect a PC how do i hook up my laptop to my tv?

Look for a VGA output on your laptop. You will also need a VGA cable. Also there are function keys along the top of the laptop (should have a small display icon) that you need to set to route the video signal to the external VGA connector.

I'm trying to connect my notebook to my TV using a hdmi cable. But it the tv says no signal, how do I get it to tune in?

If you are using Windows, you need to setup your laptop to send video out using the HDMI. The method for this depends on what video card you have in your laptop (NVIDIA, ATI, etc.). There should be a control panel associated with your video card, often in your taskbar (near the clock). All of my computers have NVIDIA cards and I can get to the NVIDIA control panel by right-clicking on my desktop and selection NVIDIA control panel. Once in the control panel, look for something along the lines of "set up displays" or "HDMI". This should provide you with a few options where you can enable your HDMI and choose whether you want to see everything on just your TV, just your laptop, or both. Once you apply these settings, you should be able to use your laptop with your TV.

Also, for sound, you need to right click on the volume icon in your task bar (the speaker shaped one) and select "Playback Devices". A window will popup and usually displays three options. The active one will likely be your notebook's speakers, but there is also on for HDMI. Right click on it and select "set as default device". This plays the sound through your TV's speakers instead of your notebook's. When you're done using the HDMI, you'll need set your laptop speakers as the default device again in order to play sound through them again. Hope this helped.

Samsung TV can't detect connection to laptop

Make sure you set the laptop to display at a resolution the TV can display, it seems best to start with 1024x768 then work up.

If you are using a VGA - HDMI converter it is possible you will not get a picture.

You should be able to set the laptop to 1024 x 768, plug it into the TV, select PC input on the TV remote, and the picture should appear.

If not, then check you have the monitor output on the laptop switched on, test it with another monitor to be sure.

If all the above still fails to work, and you've checked the cable the TV has a fault.

I hope this helps.

How do I connect my Laptop to my HDTV TV?

Depending on your laptop connections, they will decide what adapters you need. Just take the laptop to a Radio Shack or similar store and they can get you the right connections. You will need an adapter for the video and the audio separately most likely. My laptop, I use the headphone jack for audio and I have the two adapters connecting to an RGB jack. You also want to buy some extra RGB cables for more length between the laptop and tv. You may need some double ended female connectors for those too.

Then in order to get the tv to be a second screen, you need to go into your video driver. I use nvidia. You can access it from a right click on the desktop>properties>settings. Depending on your driver, you can extend the image on a second screen which is what I do or you can also have the same image on both screens.

Let me know if you have any other questions, and I would be glad to help you out.

Atlast I got some help from the right people (Samsung)! I would like to share it with others facing the same problem:

If you are using the D-sub 15 pin jack (VGA Monitor Cable: make sure its 15 pin and NOT 14 pins), follow these steps:
  1. Make sure your TV and computer are off.
  2. Using a 15 pin D-sub (standard) video cable, connect the Video Out jack on your computer's video card to the PC In jack on the back of your TV.
  3. Using an audio cable with a min-stereo plug on one end and two RCA jacks on the other, connect the Audio Out jack on your computer to the left and right PC Audio In jacks on your TV. (Note: If you have your computer connected to separate speakers, you can skip this step)
  4. Switch on the Notebook and Adjust the Resolution (800 x 600 pixels would do). You can go to Control Panel and Adjust the screen resolution. (Keep ‘Screen Refresh rate’ at 60hz in the Monitor Settings)
  5. Switch on the TV and try to Select the Source as 'PC' (you can do this by either pressing the 'Source' button several times on your TV remote or go to the Menu - Setup and Select the 'PC' as source there).
  6. In most cases, after following the above steps, the TV would start to show 'Auto Adjusting' message and it will start showing your Desk top on the TV. But incase it doesn't work, you can do the following:
a. Mostly the problem lies with the VGA cable. Make sure you have the right one (15 pin) and its securely attached at both ends. If you are not using the right VGA Cable, it means that there is no connection between your TV and Notebook. Your TV will show 'PC' in Grey in the Source Input list (Go to ‘Menu’ from the TV remote).
b. Both your Notebook and TV should be switched off when you are connecting the cable otherwise one of them might have a problem detecting the other one.
c. Try Pressing Fn + F5, F6, F7 (depends on which Notebook brand you are using) on your Notebook several times. At times, you will see some signs that the Notebook and TV are trying to connect. Select 'CRT' from list of displays available to you.
