I have a Sony Grand Wega KDF-50E2000 with a pink or red stripe along the top of the picture. The rest of the PIC is good no distortion, good color, ect. I just got around to changing the PIC lamp XL-2400 and the new lamp is bright and it really makes that stripe on the top show up. The old lamp did the same but since it had some age on it and was dimming this problem was hard to detect. What's the issue and how do I fix it.
Call Sony...... sounds like an optical block issue. If it is, they will fix it free of charge. It could be pretty expensive, like $1000 parts and labor. Sony extended the warranty on this model, I just had mine fixed a week ago. Hurry as the warranty is only good until June of 2010 :) Good Luck
There are some adjustments that can be made to align the picture. This might correct your problem. They should only be made by trained serv tech. If that won't fix it then replace the light engine. There are 2 different ones for this model. They are serial number sensitive.
If you can get a serv manual there are some screen position adjustments you can try first. Contact Sony. They have had problems with light engines. There has been some law suits and Sony has in the past covered replacement. Contact PTS for price of rebuilt. Do a google search for Sony light engine. With a serv manual you can do it if you take your time and follow directions.

Yes it is still visible in all inputs, and when I change PIC size. Even when the Pic is blank or dark (no color, like when you change inputs and there is nothing connected to the TV) you can see the top of the Pic is darker than the rest of the screen. The tv is almost 3 years old(12/06)
What does a "light engine" cost?
Where can a person get one and can a mechanically inclided individual change it out? I am familiar with computer repair.
When you change the picture size does the stripe go away? Is it on all input sources?
