Lost System Recovery CD

Hey everyone, I lost the first System Recovery CD. I've got a copy, but it was made wrong and doesn't boot up like it should. Can someone tell me how I can reburn it so that it will boot and recover the system?

I have always found Sony live support extremely helpful. Until you hear from a real expert, just give them a call--I bet they will tell you how to do it.

Can I dl or burn to disc the factory reset for my gateway nv5105u laptop? I have lost that CD

If you have lost the CD you can try to do a factory reset from the recovery partition. Make sure you haven't formatted or deleted any partition in the computer since your purchase.

Using the Recovery Partition to perform Recovery.

First turn off your computer
Turn on the system and keep tapping the F11 key
system will boot into recovery partition. Follow the instructions below:

  1. Boot into Gateway System Recovery - Press F11 to Start Recovery.
  2. On the System Recovery Menu screen, press the ALT+D keys.
  3. At the command prompt, type: D: and then press ENTER.
  4. At the D:\ prompt, type: CD Windows\i386 and then press ENTER.
  5. At the C:\Windows\I386 prompt, type: dir filename.* and then press ENTER.
  6. Verify if the file name has an underscore ( _ ) in the extension. Example: appwiz.cp_. If the file has an underscore, it has to be expanded. If it does not have an underscore, the file can be copied without expansion.
  7. If file has an underscore, expand the file to the destination. At the command prompt, type: Expand filename.**_ C:\Destination. Example: Expand appwiz.cp_ C:\Windows\System32
  8. If file does not have an underscore, copy the file to the destination. At the command prompt, type: Copy filename C:\Destination. Example: Copy atmadm C:\Windows\System32
  9. At the command prompt, type: Exit.
  10. Once back at the menu, click Quit. The computer restarts.
It should be reset to Factory settings.

IF YOU DO NOT HAVE ANY RECOVERY PARTITION OR HAVE DELETED THE PARTITION THEN PLEASE REVERT SO THAT I CAN HELP YOU TO GET A RECOVERY DISC.

Thank you for using Fixya..!!

My hp pavilion dv7-4285dx has lost everything, os and all. How can I get it to read the recovery disc I ordered from HP?

What makes you think you've lost everything? Unless you specifically instructed your computer to Format the hard drive, I would doubt very seriously that you have lost everything. Everything might still be there, but a virus has hidden it to make you think you've lost everything. Oh, one more way to lose everything is to interrupt a System Recovery before it completes, or interrupt an Fresh Install of Windows before it completes.

A lot of times the System will think you've lost everything because somehow a setting the bios was changed either by you or some virus and it has set the hard drive where it is not detectable. Turn your computer off then watch the screen to see which key you have to hit to get into the BIOS or SETUP or System Setup.

Once you are in the BIOS scroll through it looking for AHCI that will be associated with disk drives or disk controllers. If it is Enabled, Disable it and Boot your machine. If it is Disabled, Enable it and Boot your machine. In other words just change the settings for AHCI.

Do that and report back.

I have a Dell desktop that runs Windows Vista. When I try to get on the computer, it seems to load but when it gets to the black screen with the scrolling/ moving bar at the bottom. It doesn't leave...

first, recover your files. You will need to use something like this data recovery program.
http://www.asoftech.com/adr/

I've had to use it many times in the past but in this case you need to plug that drive into another system as an external drive or slave drive and run the software from there. It will rebuild the drive and hopefully recover the files.

After you get back your files, you can then format the drive and reinstall your system.

I dropped my laptop now when i turn it on i get error message saying tyhe kernel is missing or corrupt.i've tried booting from the cd i got and nothing, when i try starting in safe mode windows starts...

Think the worst.!! and accept you have lost all!

Do a restart, on accessing push F8. safe mode menu's.
Click recovery, follow in structions. hopfully this should work, you pick when you wish to recover to which date.
Should this be sucessful, save/copy your iportant docs and keep them up to date.

If this fails to recover, then you have lost all!

Restart, F8 choose Factory Recovery this will formatt all and reinsert a fresh win system, that is of course that there is no damage caused when impcting on the ground.

Hope all works out well?

Missing or corrupt hal.dll file, so can't boot the hard drive

Hey,

Please use the recovery discs or windows installation cd.

To either perform a full system restore with the recovery discs.
Or to perform a repair installation with the windows installation cd.

Boot the computer using the XP CD. You may need to change the boot order in the system BIOS so the CD boots before the hard drive. Check your system documentation for steps to access the BIOS and change the boot order.
When you see the "Welcome To Setup" screen, you will see the options below
This portion of the Setup program prepares Microsoft
Windows XP to run on your computer:
To setup Windows XP now, press ENTER.
To repair a Windows XP installation using Recovery Console, press R.
To quit Setup without installing Windows XP, press F3.
Press Enter to start the Windows Setup. do not choose "To repair a Windows XP installation using the Recovery Console, press R", (you Do Not want to load Recovery Console). I repeat, do not choose "To repair a Windows XP installation using the Recovery Console, press R".
Accept the License Agreement and Windows will search for existing Windows installations.
Select the XP installation you want to repair from the list and press R to start the repair. If Repair is not one of the options, END setup.
Setup will copy the necessary files to the hard drive and reboot. Do not press any key to boot from CD when the message appears. Setup will continue as if it were doing a clean install, but your applications and settings will remain intact.

Thanks and good luck.

I have forgotten my password

There are a lot of Windows password revealers and crackers available, but I’ve found that Windows Password Recovery Tool is the most effective.:
it not only supports XP, 2000, and NT, I have personally tested it with Vista Home Premium and Ultimate. It works perfectly to reset any local user account to a blank password
You can use the ISO to burn a boot CD. Follow these instructions:
1. Download ISO file from http://www.windowspasswordsrecovery.com Windows Password Recovery Tool
2. Burn to a CD using a CD burning tool such as Nero or Roxio or MagicISO
3. Insert CD into drive and reboot.
4. You may have to select an option in the BIOS to get the computer to boot from the CD.
Booting up and clearing a password takes a minute or two works like a charm.

Forgot password to log in to pc

Hi,
Please mention your problem clearly....
If its BIOS password (when system boots it will ask for password) then shutdown the system and remove the COMS battery for 2 minutes which is present in the one of the corner of the motherboard.
If its user password (asking the user name and password) then you need to install a fresh copy of windows xp. to install a windows xp, Insert the XP bootable cd into the CD-ROM. Restart the system. Then the system will boot from cd. If its not asking to boot from cd then you need to change the settings on BIOS menu. When system restarts keep-on pressing the DEL or F2 keys or both. then it will take you to BIOS setup. there change the boot priority. Select first boot device as CD/DVD ROM. After please click on the below link or copy the URL and paste it in your web browser. Follow the steps.

You can download the hal.dll file from this site www.dll-files.com/dllindex/dll-files.shtml?hal most of the windows missing dll files you can find here.

Also download windows nt or xp boot image from the net and create floppies or cd rom from that to boot up.

IF YOUR HARD DISK IS AN FAT32 PARTITION ITS VERY EASY AND YOU CAN USE WIN98 BOOTDISK WHIHC IS SINGLE DISK AND CAN ACCESS THE WINDOWS SYSTEM FOLDER AND COPY THIS HALL.DLL FILE.

AFTER GETTING PROMPT GO TO
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32
COPY THE HALL.DLL
