Question about MP3 & Digital Media Players

Major problems with philips HDD082 mp3 player! need to know if it can be fixed!

I've had my philips mp3 player for a year and a half and have never experienced a problem with it before this. It has always worked great but after upgrading my firmware for the first time (to version 6.0), there have been serious problems that I don't know how to fix! A few weeks after upgrading, I tried syncronizing new music onto it (I use Windows Media Player 10). It would get to the 3rd or 4th song and just freeze for many minutes. The whole thing would eventually stop and say "The I/O operation has been aborted because of either a thread exit or an application request", even though no other applications were running. (I still have no idea what this means.) Then when it wouldn't recognize that the mp3 player was still connected, I would have to disconnect unsafely, which causes the mp3 player to freeze and I'd have to reset it. All the new music that I had successfully added would be erased. It does this every time now..Then a few days ago, I tried it again (unsuccessfully) and I figured I would repair the device with the software provided. So I copied all my music to a file for when I repaired it. That night when I went to listen to my mp3 player, it was all deleted, even though I hadn't touched it. So I restored it to factory settings (which is how you repair it), thinking that it would work now. I set to work adding all the music back onto it, but it still did and said the same exact thing (The I/O operation has been aborted..blah, blah, blah). But after unsafely disconnecting it again, then reconnecting it to repair it again, my device manager (the software that came with it) doesn't recognize it, it says instead "1 or more files are missing. Please reconnect the device to the PC and try again." I did that several times with no luck. Windows Media Player and my computer still recognized it though. So basically all I have now is a blank mp3 player, with all its free space restored, and no way to put music on it. I'm convinced its the mp3 player and not WMP or my computer because my brother's works just fine. I have no idea what is going on or what to do. I've checked the philips support site and searched the internet and forums, but all I came up with is that philips support team sucks, and a lot goes wrong with philips mp3 players, though no one else seems to have my particular problems. . I've also considered having it repaired (if it could be) but my warranty has run out, and I don't know how much it would cost to repair it now. Maybe it would be more cost effective to buy a new one. Or Who knows, maybe it would work on another computer, but I haven't been able to test this yet. I'm thinking that since it all started after I upgraded the firmware, something is wrong with it, i.e its corrupt or something went wrong while downloading it to the player. I think this is highly probable, because after upgrading successfully that one time, it said something like "may not have downloaded properly, therefore not all applications may not work properly". I don't know how this may be solved. Is there anyway to "degrade" the firmware, like return it back to the original working firmware version (3.2), whether its done through the company or by me? Or maybe even reinstalling the last version so as to get it working correctly? Or maybe I should just wait for the new firmware to come out, install that, and see if that works, though it took philips a year and a half to come up with some new stuff and I really don't want to wait that long.. So yeah, any advice/solutions/ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for taking the time to read my book :) i lust got my mp3 player for christmas, and I have only been able to transfer music onto it on a computer that does not have internet, what's wrong with this picture? on the package it states that i could download music off the internet, THAT'S FALSE ADVERTISING!!! Today I used the CD which came with the mp3 player to "repair" it. all it did was erase the 95 songs which I had takin hours to rip from the CD's and download. This angers some people, so if anyone has any answers, specifically the people who manufactured these things, i would be very thankful:)

On my philips HDD082 MP3 Player

Make sure you back up all songs on the GoGear before attempting this solution.

1) Back up all files on the GoGear
2) Open up Philips Device Manager (Start --> All Programs --> Philips)
3) Click on the Repair Tab, and look for a msg that says connect the player while holding the volume + button
4) Disconnect the GoGear from the computer and turn the GoGear off - hold in the volume + button and continue to hold it as you reconnect the GoGear to the computer; after holding the volume + button for up to 20 or 30 seconds, a window will open up saying that your device is being repaired (now you can let go of the volume + button); after the repair is successfully complete, your GoGear will be good as new

Now you can do the firmware upgrade that will prevent this problem from occuring in the future. Open up Philips Device Manager and click the Update tab. This problem was caused because most GoGear's were designed for Windows XP with Media Player 10 (which is no longer the latest standard).

Not working.

I have no charge in my philips hdd82 player. Usually I just plug it into my computer via usb and a screen shows up on the player showing its connected and it charges. Usually it comes up as an MTP device on the computer so I can add mp3s as well. Now for no reason at all, when I plug it in, it doesn't charge and the computer doesn't recognize it. The screen shows an outlet when I plug it in so I know the cord works. It just won't let me do anything. When I press the on button with the cord unplugged, I can't do anything either b/c no charge. HELP. plz.

USB Device Not Recognized

It sounds like you need a driver for your player on the pc - or the old one is somehow corrupted. There are some conflict issues with new versions of windows media player also. Go to this link; and download the "Firmware Manager" about halfway down. Install it and see if your problem is solved. if not, please post again with details of which windows version you are using on the pc, and I can talk you through a few more things to try. You can also see if i'm online and talk live if you prefer. Hope this helps :)
