Lens error Help please

My camera works perfectly fin up till now. i got it about 9 months ago anf keep it in a case and never take it near water sand etc. I turned it on tonight and the lens came out like normal but then it gave me a message "lens error restart camera." i restarted it and took out the battery and restarted it over and over.. what can i try?

"lens error, restart camera" and a warning beep. After a year from new free of any problems, this has occurred just outside the first year (I haven't checked the warranty yet). I have tried removing the battery and card
